Basketball Coach (Part-Time, Seasonal) - 6th Grade Boys

Athletic Director Purpose The 6th Grade Boys' Basketball Coach teaches fundamental skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship to young athletes. This part-time role focuses on developing players' abilities on the court while promoting a positive environment, academic discipline, and personal growth. Key Responsibilities Player Development & Team Management Develop a strategic plan with the Athletic Director for year-round player development, future scholarship tracking, and a winning program. Coordinate scheduling for games, practices, bus trips, and equipment purchasing with the Activities Director. Evaluate assistant coaches at the end of the season. Enforce student participation in mandatory team fundraising efforts. Distribute the Student Athletic Handbook and ensure all player forms are signed and filed. Operations & Financial Admin Submit the completed team roster at least two (2) weeks before the first game. Collect player activity fees and turn them in to Ms. Jackson. Manage, track, and maintain all issued equipment and uniforms, submitting a final inventory at the end of the season. Contact the building principal at least one (1) week in advance if games or practices conflict with teaching time or staff meetings. Safety, Compliance & Rules Follow and enforce all athletic office and school principal policies. Comply with the University Academy academic grade check policy every three (3) weeks. Complete mandatory online concussion training. Immediately report any game or practice injuries to the Athletic Director and Athletic Trainer and complete incident reports. State Association (MSHSAA) & Tech Requirements Log into the MSHSAA website to input game scores and rate game officials. Complete the required MSHSAA Online Rules Review. Write a paragraph-form game summary and stat breakdown for the Athletic Director immediately after each game for school media/TVs. Other Duties Complete any other duties assigned by the Athletic Director.
Requirements:
Skills and Qualifications Prior experience in coaching youth basketball or similar sports preferred Strong knowledge of basketball rules, techniques, and strategies Excellent communication and leadership skills Ability to motivate and inspire young athletes Reliable, responsible, and able to commit to the seasonal schedule Must be able to successfully pass a background check and youth safety screening. CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) is a plus Passion for youth development and sports education.
