RESPONSIBILITIES
: Recruiting and retaining qualified student-athletes and then mentoring them in their academic performance to assure their academic success and timely progress toward degree completion and graduation. Coaching and supervising the softball team during scheduled practices, games, study hall and other events and developing strategies to ensure the appropriate personal and social conduct on-campus and off-campus of the student-athletes, including, but not limited to, exemplary sportsmanship. Working with MSUB's sports performance staff and Assistant Women's Softball Coach to develop and manage an effective in-season and off-season women's softball strength and conditioning program. Oversight of field facility maintenance (in collaboration with the athletics' and institution's facilities personnel) for practice and game preparations. This would include preparation of the infield and bullpens for practice and competition. Directing the development of in-season and off-season player skill development programs. Making schedule recommendations to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and planning the team's travel arrangements in consultation with the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. Oversight of ordering team equipment and apparel under the direction of the Associate AD for Marketing while following all MSUB logo/branding policies. Maintaining responsibility for expense control compliance with all women's softball program expenditures and staying within approved budget parameters. Directing the women's softball program within all NCAA and conference rules and regulations, as well as all state, university, and departmental policies, procedures, and regulations. Developing strategies to motivate maximum level of individual and team athletic performance and appropriate personal and social conduct required to build and maintain a competitive, high quality, NCAA Division II women's softball program. Developing strategies to ensure the establishment of a safe environment for the women's softball student-athletes, including but not limited to education on and methods for discussing and resolving harassment and discrimination. Promoting the athletic program both on-campus and off-campus and actively participating in and contributing professionally to the Athletic Department, the university, and the Billings community. Fund-raising within the community, coordinated with the Associate Athletic Director for Development and Marketing, and meeting established fund-raising goals for the women's softball program. Planning and conducting softball camps, clinics, and tournaments. Establishing and maintaining an active Yellowjacket Women's Softball Booster Club (under the umbrella of the Yellowjacket Athletic Association). Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.QUALITIES
: Ability to recruit and retain qualified student-athletes and to facilitate timely progress toward graduation. Ability to coach effectively at the NCAA Division II level. Ability to successfully mentor student-athletes academically, physically, and emotionally. Effective oral and written communication skills. Effective computer and technology skills. Sound human relations skills in dealing with student-athletes, university personnel, corporate sponsors, boosters, parents of student-athletes, and members of the off-campus community. Thorough knowledge of NCAA Division II rules and regulations (preferred). Successful completion of required annual NCAA Coaches Curriculum module. Successful completion of CPR and First Aid certification requirements. Successful completion of a defensive driving/van safety course. Ability to operate an intercollegiate women's softball program within budget parameters. Ability to raise funds within the community. Must have and be able to maintain a valid driver's license and be willing to operate a motor vehicle to transport teams to and from competition.
