Posting Details Classification Information Classification Type Position Overview Primary Purpose of Position This individual will be responsible for building a high-quality, well respected and nationally-recognized competitive Stunt, Dance and Cheer program including both mascots. In addition to the overall administration of the cheer program, it is the Coach's responsibility to foster and encourage goals of student-athletes, stress the elements of sportsmanship and fair play. The Coach is responsible for preparing the stunt, dance and cheerleading team for events and/or competition and for motivating athletes to develop an appreciation for the sport. The Coach will uphold the mission and vision of the University through appropriate role modeling, ethical behavior and decision-making, active engagement of students in the life and values of the athletic department. The Coach will be responsible for adherence to all University procedures, rules, regulations, and policies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
To conduct the cheer program according to all applicable rules regulations, guidelines, and standards for financial aid, eligibility and recruiting. To prepare and operate within the sport budget and follow purchasing and spending guidelines as set by the athletic department. To successfully pass any required Coaching Certification Exams. AACCA (American Association of Cheerleading Coaches & Administration) CPR , First Aid & Concussion Training. To support leadership and participate in overall athletic administration needs. To schedule, conduct, supervise all team practice sessions and complete game schedules with confirmed travel arrangements. To manage all aspects of the athletic departments Game Day experience across all sports including the University's mascots and related fan engagement under the overall direction of the SWA . To identify quality student-athletes with experience in stunt and dance while meeting roster goals. To assist with student-athlete eligibility certification and completion of forms and medical exams, and provide reports to the Compliance Office as required, report any rule violations, injuries or accidents involving student-athletes, and misconduct of student- athletes. To work, communicate, and develop rapport with students, parents, alumni, faculty/staff, and administration and to engage in public relations activities and to promote the sports program in a positive manner. To provide mentoring and team development for all programs under his/her supervision. To hold organizational meetings for team prospects and encourage students to participate. To assesses skills and assign team positions. To coach and instruct individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport. To observe team members, during events and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement. To monitor the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met. To model sports-like, professional behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards team members, officials, and spectators. This includes wearing of appropriate apparel and behavior in general. To appropriately engage the community at organized events and/or otherwise to promote the University. This will include on and off-campus events. To act as a team representative and promote cheer, dance, and stunt by communicating (in coordination with the Sports Information Office with the news media, and other organizations. To follow established procedures for supplies and uniforms. To participate in special activities as applicable To model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities. Primary Function of Organizational Unit Consistent with the mission statement of North Carolina A&T State University to provide an intellectual environment where students develop a sense of identification, belonging, responsibility, and achievement that prepares them for leadership and service in regional, national and global communities, the department of athletics provides a comprehensive program of intercollegiate competition as an integral part of the total educational experience for all students. Embracing the principles of competitive excellence, sportsmanship, diversity, ethical conduct, and amateurism while facilitating the academic objectives of the student-athletes, the department complies with all conference and association rules and regulations, and ensures equal opportunity and access for all students and staff who desire to associate with intercollegiate athletics without regard for race, color, national origin, gender, age, disability, or religion. Minimum Requirements Bachelor's degree 3-5 years of stunt and dance experience required Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education Master's degree Knowledge and Coaching skills for stunt, dance, and cheer or some combination thereof; with 3-5 years experience Required License or Certification N/A Is this position eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies.
