Job Description

Job Description The Head Coach will work under the general supervision of the Director of Athletics to recruit, coach, promote, develop, and administrate the operations of the sport program consistent with institutional, Region 10, and NJCAA regulations. The expectation of the Head Coach is to lead a successful program whose team members compete with honor and integrity while furthering the growth of the student-athlete and the Athletic Department. Essential Duties Summary Day-to-Day Coaching Responsibilities Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the sport, including, but not limited to: coaching, recruiting, organizing practice and scheduling of matches, game day preparation, fundraising, and monitoring student-athlete academic progress. Recruit student-athletes by adhering to recruiting rules established by NJCAA and give consideration to local high school student-athletes. Monitor expenditures with the Athletic Director to ensure purchases adhere to prescribed limitations established in the annual budget, and that all expenditures are properly documented and in compliance with College, Region 10, and NJCAA regulations. Assist the Athletic Director in preparing the annual budget to include equipment, supplies, and apparel. Assist Athletic Director with ordering equipment, supplies, and apparel. Coordinate all player and coach travel. Monitor the condition of equipment and facilities to ensure the safety of student athletes and coaching staff and report maintenance needs as needed. Coordinate recruitment and selection of student athletes; ensures compliance with College, Region 10, and NJCAA recruiting rules and regulations; initiates process for determining academic eligibility. Hire and supervise Assistant Coaches, under the direction of the Athletic Director Athletic Department Expectations Develops positive relationships with faculty, staff, student-athletes, alumni, and donors while interacting successfully with department personnel and the college community. Responsible for monitoring academic progress of all student athletes; and monitor progress and eligibility of transfer students; assist with the administration of policies and procedures with respect to academic expectations for student-athletes; communicate with academic advising regarding athletic academic expectations; meet with student-athletes on performance issues, study skills, and techniques for academic success. Demonstrate successful fundraising skills and assist with approved fundraising activities. Drive the athletic vehicle to and from competition. Treat students and colleagues respectfully, speak to others courteously, and behave in such a way that creates a workplace environment that is marked by trustworthiness, honest but polite communication, and interpersonal interaction that are both personally cordial and professionally appropriate. Present a professional image in work, action and attire, conducting oneself in a manner consistent with the College's standards of employee conduct. Ensures compliance with all State, federal, College, Region 10, NJCAA and conference rules and regulations. Establishes and ensures communication and enforcement of rules and regulations regarding Title IX, student conduct, appearance, behavior, class attendance, Student Athletic Handbook, Athletics Department Handbook, and College policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned and other related duties incident to the work described herein. Salary Range $12,000 per year (final salary will be contingent based on experience) Required Qualifications Qualifications Two years' experience in student activities, recreational programs or related work. Valid North Carolina driver's license and good driving record. Skills and Abilities Remains knowledgeable and abides by all conference and NJCAA rules and regulations. Ability to work successfully with diverse populations, and to plan and adapt to change. Ability to work effectively and collegially with others. Able to maintain records accurately and be able to meet deadlines consistently. Ability to work or meet in the evenings and/or on weekends, with advanced notice. Ability to use productivity software, including a general knowledge of word processors and spreadsheets, the ability to send and receive email, and to complete and submit electronic forms. Employees are expected to perform essential computer skills (log on/off a computer, manage and organize files, print/scan forms using a copier, maintain and recall secure passwords and change password(s) routinely per College procedures). Provide exceptional customer service with people internal and external to the institution. Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of a comprehensive community college. Preferred Qualifications Preferred Bachelor's degree in Student Life, Physical Education, Recreation or closely related field. Previous coaching experience in a college setting preferred. Physical Demands ADA requirements for this position include critical thinking skills with the ability to process information, analyze data, make assessments, and exercise good judgment to make decisions; possess ease of mobility within the work environment and other areas of campus; and effective use of all forms of communication (oral, visual, auditory), including use of computers.
