Position Summary Salem Academy and College, an NCAA Division III member institution and member of the USA South Athletic Conference, is seeking a passionate, energetic, and student-centered individual for the position of Assistant Women's Basketball Coach. This position will assist the Head Women's Basketball Coach in all aspects of operating and developing a competitive NCAA Division III women's basketball program that aligns with the mission and values of Salem College. The Assistant Coach will play a key role in recruiting quality student-athletes, player development, practice planning, game preparation, team travel, and fostering a positive student-athlete experience. The successful candidate must be willing to work evenings, weekends, and travel extensively during the academic year and recruiting periods. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Coaching & Player Development Assist with planning and conducting practices, workouts, and skill development sessions Provide instruction in individual and team fundamentals Assist with scouting reports, game preparation, and film breakdown Support in-game coaching responsibilities and bench management Help foster a positive, disciplined, and competitive team culture Recruiting Identify, recruit, and retain qualified student-athletes who fit Salem College academically, athletically, and culturally Build and maintain relationships with high school, prep school, AAU, and junior college coaches Attend recruiting events, showcases, tournaments, and evaluations Conduct consistent communication with prospective student-athletes and families through phone calls, text messages, email, and recruiting platforms Collaborate with Admissions and Financial Aid throughout the recruitment process Assist with campus visits, official visits, and recruiting events Team Operations Assist with travel planning, meals, lodging, and game day preparation Drive a 15-passenger van for away contests, recruiting trips, and other team-related travel as needed Ensure safe transportation and adherence to institutional travel policies Assist with equipment organization, laundry, practice setup, and facility preparation Help monitor academic progress and student-athlete well-being Administrative & Campus Engagement Assist with community engagement initiatives, camps, clinics, and fundraising efforts Support athletic department events and campus functions Promote Salem College Athletics through social media engagement and community outreach Maintain knowledge and compliance with NCAA Division
III, USA
South Conference, and institutional policies Required Qualifications HS Diploma required (bachelor's degree Preferred) Collegiate playing and/or coaching experience preferred Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills Valid driver's license with the ability to drive a 15-passenger van Ability to recruit and build relationships with prospective student-athletes Commitment to the academic success and personal development of student-athletes Ability to work nights, weekends, and travel extensively

Uphold the mission and values of Salem College Demonstrate professionalism and integrity in all interactions Support the holistic development and well-being of student-athletes Physical Functions While performing the responsibilities of the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach the employee is required to sit for varying lengths of time; bend, reach, lift, push, and pull up to 25 pounds; occasionally stand, walk, and kneel and regularly ascend/descend stairs; use hands and fingers to handle or feel and manipulate keys on a keyboard; perform extended periods of work at a computer workstation, view a computer monitor; perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and receive detailed information through oral communication; express and exchange ideas by means of spoken word; and work in an office setting.
