Job Description:
Position Summary:
The Development Team Head Coach is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the institution's developmental basketball program. This position plays a vital role in supporting the overall success of the men's basketball program by providing coaching, instruction, and operational assistance while helping to develop prospective student-athletes for future varsity competition.
Responsibilities:
Coaching and Player Development:
Plan, organize, and conduct all development team practices Coach and manage all development team competitions and games Provide skill instruction, player development, and mentorship to student-athletes Foster a positive team culture that promotes sportsmanship, accountability, and personal growth Monitor and evaluate student-athlete progress and communicate development plans to the varsity coaching staff
Varsity Program Support:
Assist with varsity team operations and coaching responsibilities as assigned by the Head Coach Participate in practice planning, scouting preparation, film breakdown, and player development activities Assist with game-day operations and other program-related duties Support team travel, camps, clinics, and community engagement initiatives when needed
Administrative Responsibilities:
Assist with scheduling development team contests and coordinating related logistics Ensure compliance with institutional, conference, and NCAA policies and procedures Maintain accurate records related to recruiting, roster management, and team activities Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Director of Athletics.
Requirements:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred Previous coaching, playing, or basketball operations experience preferred Knowledge of NCAA, conference, and institutional regulations preferred
Certification:
Must be certified in first aid,
CPR and AED Skills/Abilities:
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills Ability to recruit and mentor student-athletes within a collegiate environment Commitment to supporting the academic, athletic, and personal success of student-athletes Ability to demonstrate basketball skills and actively participate in practices Ability to travel for recruiting and competition as required Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary
Driving Responsibility:
Must maintain a clean driving record as defined by University insurance carrier guidelines Motor vehicle record will be monitored regularly using NYS License Event Notification Service or License Monitor, Inc. for out of state licenses Will be required to attend van training annually
Travel:
Travel is required
