Pool - Swim Instructor

Provide group and private swim lessons and water safety instruction to infants, children, and adults following the American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim curriculum and guidelines. Teaches children skills related to swimming strokes and water safety as outlined by the Bexley Recreation Swim Lesson Program. Evaluates participants' readiness to advance to the next level and make recommendations. Attends staff in-service training. Other duties may be assigned. Must be at least 15 years of age. Red Cross Lifeguard certification preferred Previous pool or aquatics experience preferred.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to children, adults and other employees of the City.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to interpret and follow detailed but uncomplicated written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a limited number of distinct tasks and functions in standardized situations.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Must maintain excellent attendance and be punctual and reliable. Must have excellent communication skills, Must work effectively with a team and be able to organize and perform multiple responsibilities, sometimes simultaneously, in an accurate, efficient, and responsive manner; Must be able to adapt to unexpected changes in assignments or deadlines.

Other Qualifications:

Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Must be comfortable in and around water. Must possess a reasonable knowledge of swimming fundamentals. Must be comfortable working with children.
