This dynamic role involves developing athletes' skills, fostering teamwork, and promoting a positive sporting environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership qualities, coaching experience, and a genuine enthusiasm for nurturing talent across all age groups. As a key member of our sports program, you will inspire players to achieve their best both on and off the course while ensuring safety and sportsmanship at all times. Key Responsibilities Recruit, evaluate, and retain student-athletes for the men's and women's golf programs Plan and conduct practices focused on swing mechanics, short game, course management, and mental performance Develop individualized training plans to improve athlete performance and consistency Schedule and coordinate tournaments, matches, and competitive events Identify and secure practice facilities, driving ranges, and home course arrangements Coordinate all competition logistics, including travel, tee times, and tournament entries Recruit, hire, and supervise assistant coaches (if applicable) Ensure compliance with NJCAA (or applicable governing body) rules and institutional policies Monitor academic progress and promote student-athlete success in the classroom Manage program operations, including equipment, uniforms, budgeting, and travel Foster a positive, disciplined, and team-oriented culture If athletes decided to attend OVCC from out of state, we have accomendations. Duties Develop comprehensive training programs tailored to skill levels of male and female golfers, emphasizing technique, strategy, and sportsmanship. Lead team practices, drills, and competitions with enthusiasm, motivating athletes to reach their full potential. Provide personalized coaching sessions to improve individual performance in areas such as swing mechanics, course management, and mental toughness. Organize team travel arrangements for tournaments and coordinate logistics for events. Monitor player behavior and enforce discipline policies to maintain a respectful and positive environment. Collaborate with other sports coaches to promote cross-training activities like swimming, martial arts (including karate, judo), cheerleading, climbing, and physical education classes that enhance athletic performance. Ensure safety protocols are followed during practice sessions and competitions; oversee equipment maintenance and course safety inspections. Engage with parents, school staff, and community members to foster support for the golf program and promote healthy sporting habits among students. Qualifications Proven experience in sports coaching with a focus on golf; previous head coach roles preferred. Strong background in teaching physical education or related sports such as basketball, cheerleading, climbing, or martial arts including karate, judo, or other martial arts disciplines. Lifeguard experience is advantageous for overseeing aquatic activities linked to fitness programs. Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with students of diverse backgrounds and skill levels. Knowledge of behavior management techniques to motivate athletes and maintain discipline during training sessions. Experience working in health clubs or gyms is beneficial for understanding fitness fundamentals. Demonstrated ability to organize events, manage schedules, and coordinate multiple activities simultaneously.
