Job Description:
Garfield Heights City Schools is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Volleyball Head Coach to support the high school volleyball program. The Head Coach will develop student-athletes' skills, promote teamwork and sportsmanship, and uphold OHSAA and district standards. The ideal candidate will have strong volleyball knowledge, a passion for youth development, and the ability to positively contribute to the culture and success of the program.
Key Responsibilities:
Mentorship & Athlete Development:
Support student-athletes through skill instruction, encouragement, and guidance while promoting teamwork, respect, and personal growth.
Compliance & Eligibility:
Ensure athletes meet academic, behavioral, and eligibility standards set by OHSAA and Garfield Heights City Schools.
Practice & Game Preparation:
Help plan and conduct structured practices, support match preparation, and assist with in-game decision-making as needed.
Team Operations:
Assist with equipment management, scheduling coordination, team communication, and game-day logistics.
Safety & Conduct:
Promote a safe, inclusive, and positive environment during all practices, matches, travel, and team activities.
Community Engagement:
Build respectful and supportive relationships with students, families, staff, and community members to strengthen program engagement.
Professional Growth:
Stay current on volleyball coaching techniques, OHSAA regulations, and best practices in athlete development.
Other Duties:
Perform other related responsibilities as assigned by the Athletic Director, or school administration.
Qualifications:
Valid Pupil Activity Permit with the Ohio Department of Education Satisfactory BCI/FBI background checks Prior high school or collegiate volleyball coaching experience preferred (minimum 3-5 years strongly encouraged) Strong understanding of volleyball fundamentals, systems, and player development Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with students, families, and staff Demonstrated commitment to academic achievement, sportsmanship, and student well-being
