COACHING STANDARDS
THE
EXPECTATIONS
THE
COACH IS PROFESSIONAL
Is ethical and respectful to athletes, competitors, parents and officials. Follows all the rules and school district expectations.
THE COACH COMMUNICATES WELL
Communicates effectively with athletes, parents and district staff. Maintains an openness to athlete and parent concerns and facilitates appropriate parent and athlete meetings.
THE COACH CAN PROVIDE A SAFE STRUCTURE FOR THE ATHLETES
Appropriately supervises students in locker rooms, training areas and while being transported. Organizes practice sessions and other activities with attention to individual and group safety.
THE COACH CAN MANAGE THEIR SEASON
Is effective at managing or assisting with finances, scheduling, transportation and other responsibilities. Provides an adequate system for management of equipment.
THE COACH IS KNOWLEDGEABLE OF THEIR SPORT AND CAN CREATE COMPETITIVE TEAMS
Is effective at teaching skills and strategies to athletes Can prepare a team for their opponents Can make adjustments during competition Abides by district and OSAA sport specific rules The coach can create a team where higher and lower skilled athletes alike are team orientated and are motivated by the team concept
