Under direction, the role of the assistant coach is to assist in the planning, development, and implementation of the policies, regulations, guidelines, and procedures pertaining to an interscholastic sports program. Assistant coaches support the head coach in creating and maintaining the vision within the program. They work under the head coach to organize and conduct the athletic programs to meet the needs of the school district and their participants. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities This position has the following expectations and prerequisite abilities. 1. Knowledge and understanding of the basic aspects of the sport. 2. Has knowledge of and complies with state, conference, league and school training, rules and regulations. 3. Understanding of child growth, development and behavior with general knowledge of assessment techniques and monitoring strategies to identify student/athlete's efforts, performance, strengths, and weaknesses. 4. Complies with all state, conference, league and school rules and regulations, and policies approved by Eugene School District 4J, OSAA and NFHS. 5. Knowledge of policies, regulations, and procedures pertaining to interscholastic athletics and activities. 6. Ability to provide training and coaching through motivational techniques and strategies to improve individuals and group performance. 7. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse students, staff, and community populations. 8. Maintain a high level of confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, FERPA and adherence to the competent and ethical educator practices. 9. Maintain compliance with state and federal laws governing all aspects of our agency including ORS, OAR, IDEA, FOIA, and
CIPA. 10.
Demonstrates respectful, flexible and effective teambuilding skills of cooperation, communication and active participation. 11. Present self and ESD4J in a professional manner including: in oral and written communication, professional disposition when working with others and maintaining professional dress standards. 12. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directives. 13. Maintain regular attendance at work. Be punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedules. 14. Utilize teleservice platform to provide services to educators, students and district staff as directed. 15. Ability to lift, carry at least 25 pounds. 16. Ability to sit for extended periods of time in a vehicle or work setting.
Minimum Qualifications Education:
? High school diploma or equivalent.
Certification:
? Possession of a valid Red Cross First Aid Certificate, including CPR training methods and procedures. ? Successful completion of Concussion Management and other training courses required by the OSAA. ? Successfully meet the District's background check process. ? Preferred, but not required: Possession of a valid TSPC license. ?
Valid Oregon Driver's License Experience:
? A year of prior Interscholastic athletic or coaching experience (knowledge of sport) ? Experience in, or understanding of sport to be coached. Must meet OSAA standards for coaching certificate. Knowledge of athletic conditioning and care/prevention of injuries. ? Must be a minimum of 22 years of age.
Preferred Qualifications:
? Possession of an earned baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college or university in physical education, or closely related areas. ? Two years of experience as a high school interscholastic coach. ? Bilingual proficiency and/or multicultural experience strongly preferred.
