GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Weight Coach will direct programs which will instruct student/athlete in the fundamental skills, strategy, safety procedures and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual success. At the same time, the student/athlete shall receive instruction that will lead to the formation of pride of accomplishment, self-discipline, and self-confidence.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
The Weight Coach is responsible to the building principal and works cooperatively with the building Activities Director and other coaches in the building.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Establishes times the weight room shall be open outside the normal class day and assures supervision. Provides proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment and facilities. Provides training rules and other unique regulations which pertain to weight lifting, strength development, flexibility and overall physical conditioning. Instruct the student/athlete in the proper safety techniques required for weight training. Secures all doors, lights and locks before leaving the building if custodians are not on duty. Instills in each participant a respect for the care and proper use of equipment and school property. QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge:
Of anatomy and physiology of exercise.
Of fundamentals and techniques of weight lifting.
Of safety factors involved.
Of various strength-conditioning programs.
Skills:
Must possess the ability to communicate effectively. Must be able to demonstrate proper technique.
Must have the ability to organize, supervise, and evaluate the total weight program.
Attitudes:
Must be positive.
Should be enthusiastic.
Should possess a willingness to cooperate and to adjust to various situations.
Experience:
Previous coaching experience preferred.
Previous teaching experience preferred.
Education:
Valid Oregon teacher certification is preferred.
College training in coaching desirable.
