Mid-to-late August 2026 (just after Labor Day at the latest) About British Swim School of Lancaster-York British Swim School of Lancaster-York proudly serves more than 600 swimmers and their families across four pool locations — three in Lancaster and one in York. We teach swimmers of every age and ability — from infants as young as 3 months through adults of all ages — in a fun, gentle, and effective environment. Our programs span water acclimation, water survival, learn-to-swim, stroke development, and adult instruction, and we are now expanding our offerings with the launch of our first-ever Barracudas Swim Team. We are looking for a dynamic coach who loves swimming and wants to build something from the ground up. About the Role The Barracudas Swim Team is a non-competitive, skill-development program open to swimmers who have reached our first stroke development level and above and want to refine their strokes, build endurance, and experience team camaraderie. This is not a USA Swimming sanctioned club and we are not joining a competitive league. Instead, we are creating a positive, supportive team environment where swimmers can grow technically and personally. As our founding Barracudas Swim Team Coach, you will own the program end-to-end. You will report directly to the Franchise Owners and partner closely with our other Aquatics Managers as a peer on the leadership team. The specifics are below. What You'll Do Plan and lead practices Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings at our Willow Valley location. Design age- and skill-appropriate practice plans focused on stroke development, endurance, and water confidence. Lead, coach, and mentor any current British Swim School instructors who assist with the Barracudas program, ensuring consistent technique and a positive deck culture. Track individual swimmer progress and maintain organized records of attendance, skills mastered, and goals. Communicate regularly and professionally with parents about expectations, progress, and program updates. Plan and host a quarterly internal time trial / mock swim meet, including heat sheets, timing, ribbons or recognition, and a positive event-day experience. Foster a fun, encouraging, team-oriented culture aligned with British Swim School values. Partner with fellow Aquatics Managers and report to the Owners on program health, swimmer progress, and continuous improvement. Collaborate on program promotion and swimmer recruitment, both from within our existing 600+ student base and from the broader Lancaster and York communities. Ensure a safe pool environment at all times and follow all British Swim School and facility safety protocols. Who You Are You're a dynamic, energetic coach who genuinely loves swimming and loves sharing that passion with others. You bring positive energy to the deck every practice, you take ownership of what you build, and you're excited by the chance to grow a program, and possibly more over time. Required Qualifications Prior experience as a competitive swim coach (high school, club, summer league, college, or equivalent). Strong knowledge of all four competitive strokes, starts, turns, and age-appropriate training principles. Comfortable leading and mentoring assistant instructors on deck. Excellent communication skills with both children and parents. Highly organized, dependable, and able to take full ownership of a new program. Available Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings on a consistent basis. CPR/AED and First Aid certified, or willing to obtain prior to start date. Must pass a background check. Preferred Qualifications Current Lifeguard certification (American Red Cross or equivalent). Prior experience coaching or working with swimmers ages 5-14. Experience running swim meets, time trials, or similar events. Background in age-group, summer league, YMCA, or USA Swimming programs. Compensation & Hours Starting pay of $21.00 per hour. Set practice schedule three evenings per week, plus practice planning and parent communication time. Quarterly time trial events (approximately four per year). Additional hours available for the right candidate interested in teaching in our other British Swim School programs. Growth Opportunity As our aquatics offerings expand, there is potential to grow this role in several directions, including expanding Barracudas practices to additional evenings and locations within our franchise footprint (such as our Brethren Village location and the York area), and developing and launching a Masters Swim program for adult swimmers. The right candidate will have the opportunity to help shape and lead that growth. Why Join Us This is a rare opportunity to build a brand-new swim team from day one and help shape its growth over time. You will have the autonomy to define the program, a seat at the table alongside our Aquatics Managers and Owners, and the support of an established franchise with 600+ swimmers across four pool locations. If you love the sport, love coaching, and want to create something special in the Lancaster and York communities, we want to hear from you. How to Apply Submit your resume along with a brief note about your coaching background and why you're excited to launch the Barracudas Swim Team with us.
