General Statement of Duties The assistant coach's primary role is to assist the head coach in the comprehensive development and effective management of the student-athletes and the overall program. This includes supporting the creation and implementation of detailed training regimens, organizing and conducting practice sessions, preparing for game day competitions, and supervising student-athletes to ensure their growth and well-being both on and off the field. Essential Duties Assist in the management of the athletic program. Assists in preparing players for interscholastic competition through practice, teaching fundamental skills, and imparting knowledge of the rules. Assists in reviewing eligibility forms and submitting them to the Student Activities Director. Assists in collecting all health physical forms. Monitors student academic progress. Assists in the cleaning, storage, and proper care of team equipment. Assist in the requisitions for supplies, uniforms, and necessary equipment through the Student Activities Director. Fosters good school-community relations by keeping the community informed and engaged with the athletic program. Assists in organizing pre-season meetings with parents. Helps prepare daily practice schedules and conducts practice sessions. Attends VHSL clinics as required. Follows county financial policies regarding the collection and receipting of funds. Minimum Qualifications Demonstrated ability to support management program through previous experience as a coach or player. Previous coaching experience, knowledge of the sport, and current understanding of coaching techniques and strategies. Strong leadership and organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to mentor and motivate student-athletes. Coaches with prior college experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
