This role combines hands-on claim handling with people leadership, ensuring high-quality outcomes across commercial auto, trucking, cargo, and casualty claims. The ideal candidate is a strong technical expert who can manage large exposure claims, mentor team members, and drive best-in-class claims performance, service, and operational excellence. Key Responsibilities Individual Contributor (Adjuster) Responsibilities Manage a caseload of complex transportation claims, including: Commercial auto liability (BI & PD) Trucking and logistics losses Cargo and related exposures Catastrophic and multi-party claims Handle claims from FNOL through resolution, including litigation. Conduct coverage analysis and draft reservation of rights / denial letters. Establish and maintain adequate reserves and monitor claim developments. Lead investigations into liability, damages, and causation. Develop and execute resolution strategies, including early settlement opportunities. Attend and participate in mediations, settlement conferences, and trials. Manage defense counsel, experts, and vendors, including budgeting and performance. Leadership & Team Management Responsibilities Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of transportation claims adjusters. Conduct file reviews, audits, and performance evaluations to ensure quality and compliance. Provide technical guidance and escalation support on complex or high-exposure claims. Drive adherence to claims best practices, regulatory requirements, and company standards. Support training, onboarding, and professional development of team members. Monitor team workloads, productivity, and service levels. Operational & Strategic Responsibilities Collaborate with underwriting, risk, legal, and senior leadership on: Large losses Coverage issues Emerging claim trends Identify and communicate transportation claim trends, exposures, and improvement opportunities. Assist in developing and refining claims processes, workflows, and strategies. Prepare and deliver large loss reports and presentations to leadership. Financial & Compliance Oversight Manage claim indemnity and expense budgets for assigned files and team portfolio. Ensure accurate financial tracking, reserving, and reporting. Identify and pursue subrogation and recovery opportunities. Ensure compliance with state regulations, licensing requirements, and internal controls. Qualifications Bachelor's degree required 15+ years of experience in claims handling, with strong emphasis on: Transportation / trucking claims Commercial auto liability (BI/PD) Complex and litigated claims Prior leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred. Proven ability to manage large exposure and catastrophic claims. Core Technical Skills Coverage analysis and policy interpretation Litigation and counsel management Multi-party and high-severity loss evaluation Contractual risk transfer (indemnity, additional insured) Advanced negotiation and settlement expertise Leadership Competencies Ability to coach, mentor, and develop talent Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills Effective at balancing hands-on work with team oversight Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities High level of accountability and operational discipline Additional Requirements Adjuster licensing (or ability to obtain where required). Ability to travel for mediations, trials, and client meetings. Proficiency in claims systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
