Reports To:

Head Coach and Activities Director Purpose of the Position The Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach in leading a successful athletic program that promotes the academic, athletic, and social development of student-athletes. The Assistant Coach will model Lennox School District values and contribute to a positive, educational-based athletic experience. Supervision & Guidance The Assistant Coach operates under the supervision and guidance of: Head Coach Activities Director High School Principal High School Assistant Principal Superintendent Director of Student Services

Evaluation:

The Assistant Coach will be evaluated by the Head Coach and Activities Director, with input from building and district administration as appropriate, based on: Support of program goals and culture Student-athlete development and relationships Communication and professionalism Compliance with district and SDHSAA expectations Commitment to Lennox School District values

Education/Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) preferred Previous coaching and/or teaching experience preferred Participation in high school and/or college athletics preferred Teaching assignment within the building preferred to support student relationships, program alignment, and daily engagement with student-athletes Certifications & Requirements Fundamentals of Coaching (one-time requirement) Sports First Aid or Prevention and Car of Athletic Injuries (renewed every two years) Concussion in Sports - What You Need to Know (renewed annually) The Collapsed Athlete (renewed every two years) Heat Illness Prevention (renewed yearly, fall sports only)

Safety Certification (every four years) Program Support Assist the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and implementing the program Support the vision, culture, and expectations established by the Head Coach Help ensure alignment with middle school/junior high programs when applicable Coaching and Player Development Assist in planning and conducting effective practices Teach sport-specific skills and fundamentals Provide instruction and feedback to student-athletes Support multi-sport participation and overall athletic development Student-Athlete Development Support academic success and eligibility expectations Build positive relationships with student-athletes Model leadership, accountability, and teamwork Reinforce appropriate behavior and sportsmanship Encourage involvement in multiple activities and programs Team and Staff Collaboration Work collaboratively with the Head Coach and coaching staff Communicate effectively regarding practice plans, athlete development, and team needs Support team decisions and maintain a unified coaching approach Compliance and Expectations Follow all SDHSAA rules and Lennox School District policies Maintain required certifications and eligibility standards Adhere to offseason contact and participation regulations Ensure proper supervision at all practices, contests, and team activities Communication Communicate effectively with: Student-athletes Parents/guardians Coaching staff Head Coach Support the communication expectations established by the Head Coach Maintain professional in all interactions Game and Event Responsibilities Assist with preparation for practices and competitions Support game management, including supervision and organization Promote sportsmanship among athletes and spectators Represent Lennox School District with professionalism Equipment and Program Support Assist with equipment setup, maintenance, and storage Support program needs, including travel preparation and organization Assist with fundraising activities when needed Essential Functions and Duties Assist in the coordination of interscholastic athletic programs Collaborate with the Head Coach regarding athlete participation Promote a positive image of Lennox athletics Maintain cooperative working relationships with staff Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Coach, Activities Director, or administration Working Conditions Climatic Environment (Indoor and Outdoor) Exposure to varying temperatures and weather conditions Exposure to noise, dust, and other environmental factors Hazards Potential exposure to body fluids or communicable diseases Travel-related risks associated with practices and competitions Work Year and Compensation This is an extra-duty, extra-pay position (July 1 - June 30) Duties may occur throughout the calendar year based on program needs and sport season Lennox Coaching Identity and Standard Assistant Coaches in the Lennox School District are expected to build programs that prioritize: Support the total development of the student-athlete (academic, athletic, and social) Promote and support multi-sport participation Build positive relationships with students, staff, and community Support a unified program culture established by the Head Coach Encourage athletes to support other Lennox activities and events Represent Lennox with integrity, professionalism, and pride Do things the right way—on and off the field of play
