The head coach of a middle school boy's basketball team in Tennessee is responsible for leading all aspects of the program, focusing on teaching fundamental skills, fostering sportsmanship, and ensuring athletes meet academic standards. Core Responsibilities Program Leadership :
Design and implement a structured, competitive boys' basketball program for grades 5-8.
PracticeGame Management :
Plan and lead daily practices that emphasize skill development, fitness, and tactical understanding.
Student Mentorship :
Guide student-athletes to grow personally and athletically, emphasizing character, discipline, and academic balance.
ComplianceEligibility :
Monitor and enforce academic eligibility requirements governed by the Tennessee Middle School Athletic Association (TMSAA).
LogisticsAdministration :
Manage team scheduling, equipment inventory, budget reporting, and coordinate transportation for away games.
Communication :
Maintain open lines of communication with parents, school administration, and faculty regarding player progress and team updates.
QualificationsRequirements Education :
Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
Certifications :
TSSAA requirements must be met; non-faculty coaches typically need specific training. Valid First Aid and CPR certifications are standard. A teaching license is often preferred or required for full-time faculty roles.
Experience :
Proven background in coaching middle or high school boys' basketball is typically required.
Background Check :
Candidates must pass a background check and drug testing as per Tennessee state law for school employees.
