Role:
The Swim Coach will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive training programs that enhance swimmers' performance, technique, and endurance. This role focuses on fostering a positive and motivating environment that encourages athletes of all skill levels to achieve their personal and competitive goals. The Swim Coach will assess individual swimmer abilities, provide constructive feedback, and tailor coaching strategies to meet diverse needs. Additionally, the coach will assist the Head Coach to oversee swim practices, monitor progress, and prepare athletes for meets. Ultimately, the Swim Coach plays a critical role in promoting physical fitness, sportsmanship, and a lifelong appreciation for swimming.
Minimum Qualifications:
Current certification in CPR/AED and First Aid from a recognized organization such as the American Red Cross. Proven swimming ability and comfort in aquatic environments. Completion of a lifeguard training program accredited by the American Red Cross or equivalent. Demonstrated experience coaching swimmers at various levels, including youth. Strong knowledge of swimming techniques, training methodologies, and competition rules. Ability to pass background checks and comply with all safety and regulatory requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification in swim coaching from a recognized organization such as the American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) or equivalent. Proven track record of developing swimmers. Previous experience working in a team-oriented aquatic facility environment. Knowledge of local and state regulations related to pool safety and operations.
Responsibilities:
Comply with and enforce all policies, procedures, and regulations set by the University Club of Memphis Assist in designing and conducting swim training sessions that improve technique, speed, and stamina for swimmers of varying ages and skill levels. Evaluate swimmers' performance regularly and provide personalized feedback and goal-setting to support continuous improvement. Develop competition strategies and prepare athletes for swim meets, including warm-up routines and mental preparation. Ensure a safe and supportive training environment by enforcing pool safety rules and maintaining open communication with swimmers and their families. Maintain cleanliness and organization of pool, pool deck, and surrounding areas including swim team equipment. Complete all records and reports as required. Collaborate with other coaching staff and support personnel to coordinate training schedules, events, and athlete development programs.

The Swim Coach will utilize strong communication skills daily to clearly instruct and motivate swimmers, ensuring they understand and execute training plans effectively. Analytical skills are essential for assessing swimmer performance and adjusting techniques to optimize results. Leadership and interpersonal skills help build trust and foster a positive team culture that supports athlete development. Organizational skills are critical for planning training sessions, managing schedules, and coordinating competitions.
