SUMMARY/SCOPE
A vital part of university morale, the number one role of the Spurs Dance team and the HSU Spirit program is to support the school and athletics programs. The purpose of the Spurs Dance Team, and in turn the position of Head Coach, is to represent HSU both on and off campus with the goal of encouraging Cowboy pride through spirited performance, service, and character. That purpose will be manifested through the creation and maintenance of inviting game day experience programs, the creation of and participation in university spirit traditions, and the development of future performers.
HSU JOB FAMILY CLASSIFICATION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING
ESSENTIAL
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Spirit Responsibilities:
(20%) In collaboration with the coaches of each athletic program, plan and execute ways to enhance the game day experience for each program. Contact and facilitate community or student involvement in the development and execution of game day experience programs. Work with members of marketing team and student life to ensure that the game day experience programs are getting in front of students to encourage attendance and participation. Manage a student lead spirit program steering committee to meet once a week including representatives from all spirit programs; Band, Cheer, Spurs, Couch Crew, etc. With the goal of creating a "student first" game day experience program. Look for opportunities to improve student engagement at athletic events through periodic student attendee surveys as needed. W ork with vendors to provide clean, legal and trendy music for use in the game day experience programs.
Coaching Dance/Spurs Responsibilities:
(65%)
Dance Responsibilities:
Act as point person for communication and coordination of student-initiated dance related clubs and organizations. Act as point person for communication and coordination between campus dance educators and dance related campus programming.
Spurs Responsibilities:
Plan, facilitate and attend annual summer camp for training and exposure of the program. Plan, facilitate and attend annual competition(s) for recruiting purposes and exposure of the program. Attend annual Showtime International Auditions for recruiting incoming students. Recruiting trips to schools in the big country. Plan and execute fall and summer recruiting trips to schools in Dallas, Houston and Austin. Facilitate and plan practices and training for the Spurs Dance team, including technique strength training and choreography. Coach and facilitate performances for the game day experience programs of Football, basketball, baseball and soccer. Plan, facilitate and host annual official auditions. Plan and manage any additional private auditions that might be necessary. Work with the alumni office to coordinate alumni programing for homecoming, manage the Spurs homecoming appearances, and execute the annual Spurs Sing performance. Team building responsibilities including but not limited to bible study, Christmas Party and Formal.
Disciplinary Responsibilities:
Develop new fundraising and recruiting opportunities for the Spurs Dance Team, including but not limited to: a) Planning, hosting and marketing semesterly dance clinics open to local dance students. b) Personal phone calls and meetings with each potential new student provided by the admissions office. c) Building and initiating relationships with recruits via a strategic Instagram and social media presence. Manage existing Spurs fundraising opportunities including t-shirt sales and annual Jr. Camp. Annual costume and prop inventory and order placement. Business management for the dance team, game day experience programs and dance programs.
Administrative Responsibilities:
(15%) Assist in managing tasks related to the Student Athlete-Advisory Committee. Assist in the creation of social media, or other time sensitive, graphics as needed for the Athletic office, to be approved by the Marketing Department. Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Athletics Any additional tasks not mentioned, but directly relating to the responsibilities outlined above.

There are no supervisor responsibilities, except for student workers.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY

COMPUTER SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; Payroll systems; Order processing systems; Internet software and Contact Management systems.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited, four-year college or University is required. Coaching and dance instruction experience is preferred. Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office, spreadsheet software, email and Powerpoint preferred. Well-organized, able to set priorities and deal with matters in a tactful and highly confidential manner. Capable of working independently and with students in a supervisory role. Ability to work under pressure and deal with deadlines. Comfortable with multi-tasking; flexible with fluid situations and effective with changing priorities. Solid communication skills required. Strong interpersonal skills required. Strong commitment to the values of diversity and human compassion. Commitment to the personal development of college students. Commitment to working in collaboration with constituencies.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Dance education certification and Texas Dance Educators Association membership preferred. Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications are preferred. If candidate does not have current certification, it will be required upon being hired for this position.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This is an Exempt Level Staff Position which often requires extended hours beyond a 40-hour work week, especially during performance season and while recruiting. Candidate must be able to work non-traditional hours, including nights and weekends, depending on the time of year. There are afternoon practices during season and competitions and performances in the afternoons, evenings and on weekends. Must have and maintain a valid Class C Driver's License and maintain a clear driving record to be insurable under the university liability policy. Must be able to drive an automobile and 15-passenger van. Must be able to drive to complete work assignments on and off campus, as needed. Additional travel may be required on occasion to attend off-campus events, training, etc.
