Job Description

The Associate Head Coach, Women's Golf, supports the Director of Golf in all phases of Lamar University's NCAA Division I golf programs, including coaching, recruiting, student-athlete development, operations management, compliance, and program administration. This position promotes academic and athletic success while fostering competitive excellence and adherence to NCAA, Southland Conference, and Lamar University policies and procedures. The Associate Head Coach may serve as the primary decision-maker in the absence of the Director of Golf.
Coaching and Student-Athlete Development:
Instruct and develop student-athletes in all aspects of golf, including technical skills, course management, mental performance, and competitive strategy. Design and implement practice plans, training sessions, and competitive preparation for the women's golf program. Provide individualized development plans to enhance performance and maximize student-athlete potential. Assist with tournament strategy, lineup decisions, and performance analytics. Monitor academic progress and support student-athlete retention and graduation success. Collaborate with academic advisors to promote academic excellence among student-athletes. Mentor student-athletes in leadership, discipline, time management, sportsmanship, and personal development.
Recruiting and Talent Evaluation:
Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes who meet NCAA, Southland Conference, and university admissions standards. Build and maintain recruiting pipelines domestically and internationally. Coordinate recruiting visits, communication, and evaluations in compliance with NCAA rules. Promote Lamar University and its golf programs to attract high-quality student-athletes. Maintain relationships with recruits, families, coaches, and club programs.
Operations and Program Administration:
Assist with program budgeting, scheduling, travel arrangements, and equipment management. Coordinate team travel logistics, including transportation, lodging, meals, and tournament participation. Oversee practice scheduling, facility usage, and tournament entries. Maintain accurate documentation related to recruiting, eligibility, compliance, and team operations. Assist with administrative duties, including reports, scheduling, and correspondence.
Compliance and Program Support:
Ensure adherence to all NCAA, Southland Conference, and Lamar University rules and regulations. Complete required compliance documentation accurately and on time. Participate in compliance education and training activities. Support the Director of Golf in maintaining a culture of rules compliance and ethical conduct.
Community Engagement and External Relations:
Participate in community outreach activities, youth golf clinics, and university engagement events. Assist in promoting the program through media appearances, social media, and public relations efforts. Build relationships with local golf courses, clubs, alumni, and supporters throughout Southeast Texas. Support alumni relations and fundraising initiatives as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Previous collegiate coaching or high-level competitive golf experience. Knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and recruiting processes. Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel extensively.
Desired Qualifications:
Master's degree. Experience coaching women's golf programs. Demonstrated success in recruiting NCAA Division I student-athletes. Familiarity with the Southland Conference and regional recruiting landscape. Experience with performance analytics, swing technology, and player development tools. Established network in amateur, junior, and international golf.
Key Competencies:
Technical and tactical knowledge of high-level competitive golf instruction and competition. Ability to teach swing mechanics, course management, and mental performance strategies. Strong organizational, time management, leadership, and team-building skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with student-athletes, recruits, alumni, and community stakeholders. Proficiency with recruiting software, video analysis tools, and performance technology. Ability to interpret and apply NCAA, conference, and university regulations. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
Physical Requirements:
Stand and walk for extended periods during practices, tournaments, and recruiting activities. Demonstrate golf techniques and skills during instruction and training sessions. Lift, carry, and transport golf equipment and related materials. Work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Travel extensively for recruiting and competition.
Job Conditions:
Work is performed in both office and outdoor athletic environments. Position requires frequent evening, weekend, and holiday work. Extensive travel is required for recruiting and team competition. Position may require irregular hours based on team schedules and seasonal demands.
