Job Description:
Job Summary The Part-Time Temporary Assistant Tennis Coach is responsible for assisting in planning and administering all aspects of the Men's and Women's Tennis Programs, as assigned. Under the direction of the Head Tennis Coach, the Assistant Tennis Coach should model and uphold the exemplary standard of a student-athlete concept while fostering the personal growth and development of student athletes both on and off the court/field. The Assistant Tennis Coach is expected to promote conduct, character, sportsmanship, and academic responsibility that reflect positively upon the Our Lady of the Lake University community and its athletics program. Performance Evaluation Metrics Finish in the top four of the RRAC & Heart of America Conference Standings. Assist in the fundraising of at least $10,000 between Men's and Women's Tennis Programs. Cumulative team grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
Essential Functions:
Responsible for providing coaching and administrative assistance to the Head Coach in all areas of the Tennis program. Assists with scouting and recruitment of quality student-athletes. Monitors academic progress and eligibility status of student-athletes. Participates in public relations activities and fundraising. Ensures the highest professional standards and behavior with regard to adherence to NAIA rules and regulations. Advise student-athletes regarding rules and regulations related to financial aid and eligibility. Counsel team members in academic, disciplinary, personal matters while adhering to FERPA guidelines. Monitor academic progress and eligibility status for student-athletes in class and study hall. Participates in annual continuing education programs regarding NAIA rules. Coordinates and assist administration with home and visiting team's game day activities (schedule practices, setup and breakdown of equipment, personnel, field set up, etc.). Works with Sports Information Director to communicate the accomplishments and endeavors of the team, both individuals and as a whole. Assists the Head Coach in preparing eligibility documentation. Submits transportation requests and required travel documentation to the Athletic Director as required. Assists in special events and tournaments, championships, fundraisers, and/or clinics to include, but not limited to, major fundraisers, camps, and/or clinics. Subscribes and adheres to the NAIA Coaches Code of Conduct. Adhere and promotes the NAIA Champions of Character student development. Attend all scheduled meetings. Assist in enrolling student-athletes according to OLLU Admissions policies and standards. Adhere to Residence Life procedures to securing housing accommodations. Communicate effectively with all academic/faculty advisors, financial aid, business office, registrar and other university personnel. Athletic Department Game Day Administration duties.
Additional Responsibilities:
Serves as official or committee member as may be requested by those organizations with which OLLU is affiliated. Participates in Student Affairs Division programs and activities. Serves as liaison for the university community of faculty, staff, students and administrators. Adhere to university policies, state and federal laws concerning Title IX, HIPPA, and FERPA policies. Contribute and support the university vibrancy initiative. Assist and maintain inventory at the beginning and end of the academic year. Assist Head Coach with conducting business within the limits of the allocated budget. Recruit within the limits of the scholarship budget. Assist with all other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of fundamentals, technical aspects, and strategy for assigned sport. Ability to sting racquets. Ability to recruit and retain qualified athletes and to facilitate timely progress toward graduation. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to learn, apply and adhere to NAIA rules and regulations. Ability to interact well with officials, coaches, parents, media, and the public. Ability to operate the tennis program within budget parameters. Understanding of and commitment to the catholic faith and its traditions. Solid knowledge base of student development theory. Ability to work with students of all faiths and mentor student-athletes. Demonstrated leadership skills. Ability to work collaboratively with other departments on campus. Excellent communication, organizational, and administrative skills. Ability to travel and work flexible hours, including weekend and evening hours.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree preferred. A minimum of three years of coaching experience, with at least one year of experience coaching the assigned sport is preferred.
