Qualifications:
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate educator to join our team at Somerville High School as an 8th-grade Social Studies Teacher and Coach. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in social studies education and a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment. This role involves teaching various social studies subjects, engaging students in critical thinking, and promoting an understanding of diverse cultures and societies. Additionally, the candidate will coach student-athletes, emphasizing teamwork, discipline, and personal growth. Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that align with state and national standards in social studies.
  • Create a classroom environment that encourages student participation, critical thinking, and a love for learning.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress, providing feedback and support to help them achieve their academic goals.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the curriculum and share best practices in teaching social studies.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and community events to promote the school's mission and values.
  • Coach a designated sport, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to student-athletes.
  • Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, respect, and personal development.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding academic progress and athletic performance.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and other required documentation.
  • Stay current with educational trends and best practices in both social studies education and coaching. Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Studies, or a related field.
  • Valid teaching certification in social studies for the state of Texas.
  • Previous experience teaching social studies at the high school level is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of social studies content, including history, geography, civics, and economics.
  • Experience in coaching high school athletics, with a proven track record of developing student-athletes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • A commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development and stay informed about educational best practices.
