We host fun themed events, enrichment days, training programs, and memorable experiences for both pets and their people. Building strong relationships Clear communication High work ethic Confidence and professionalism Sense of urgency Positive attitude Continuous growth and learning Forward-thinking mindset Position Summary The Staff Trainer & Canine Behavior Coach is responsible for developing, training, and coaching Paw Oasis team members to ensure consistent handling, safety, communication, and operational excellence throughout the resort. This role uses The Dog Guru's staff training program to teach play group handling concepts. This role focuses on training people—not training client dogs. You will be responsible for onboarding new hires, ensuring completion of training programs, teaching dog behavior and handling skills, coaching employees in real time, and maintaining consistency across all shifts. The ideal candidate is a confident leader who enjoys teaching, coaching, and holding others accountable while maintaining a positive and supportive culture. Primary ResponsibilitiesStaff Training & Development Lead onboarding and training for all new daycare and kennel team members Ensure completion of online training modules and training checklists Conduct hands-on skills training and competency evaluations Train employees on: Dog body language Safe handling techniques Playgroup management Gate safety and boundaries Training-based daycare practices Resort SOPs and safety standards Identify performance gaps and proactively retrain staff Track and document training completion and progress Coaching & Accountability Provide real-time coaching and feedback to team members Reinforce company standards and expectations consistently Correct unsafe handling or policy violations immediately Help managers improve employee performance through coaching plans Lead by example and maintain a strong presence on the floor Canine Behavior Support Serve as an internal resource for dog behavior questions Assist management in evaluating behavior concerns Help develop handling protocols and training standards Support incident prevention through education and proactive coaching Administrative Responsibilities Maintain accurate training records and documentation Monitor employee progress through onboarding milestones Participate in leadership meetings and operational discussions Complete special projects related to training and development Required Qualifications Minimum 3 years professional experience working with dogs Previous experience training, coaching, mentoring, or developing employees Strong knowledge of canine behavior and body language Experience working in daycare, boarding, kennel, training, or veterinary environments Excellent communication and organizational skills Ability to work independently and take initiative Highly Preferred Leadership or supervisory experience Experience creating training programs, SOPs, or onboarding systems Experience managing large dog playgroups Who Thrives in This Role You enjoy: Teaching and developing others Giving direct feedback when needed Creating structure and consistency Taking initiative without being asked Holding people accountable respectfully Building strong teams Solving problems proactively This Role Is NOT For Someone who prefers working independently with dogs all day Someone uncomfortable coaching or correcting teammates Someone who waits for direction instead of taking initiative Someone who avoids difficult conversations Someone who struggles with organization and follow-through Schedule Requirements Monday-Friday availability required Typical schedule: 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM Flexibility during peak seasons and special training events How to Apply Please submit: Resume Cover letter describing your experience training people, working with dogs, and why you're interested in Paw Oasis Include the phrase: "Paw Oasis standards matter to me."
