Job Description

General Definition of Work Under the direction of the Athletic Director and/or Principal, the coach must plan and implement a high quality athletic program that stresses fundamentals, teamwork, and sportsmanship while maintaining high safety standards for all athletes. The coach must also be committed to high academic standards for all athletes by monitoring the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge and skill to coach students in the specific sport and related activities Ability to communicate effectively with parents, students, and school administrators Ability to motivate students Regular and predictable on-site attendance is required Ability to model and promote a culture of high expectations for academics and sportsmanship Experience working with diverse populations including students with disabilities and students who are English language learners
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES
Directs and coordinates all aspects, areas, and components of the Esports team Recruits and retains students for the Esports program Organizes, schedules, prepares, and conducts individual and team practices, training, team building activities, and competitions, along with coordination and management with third-party gaming platform vendor Determines team roster for practices and competitions Oversees computer equipment usage; assists students with set-up and operation of equipment Oversees and manages the program budget, including ordering of supplies, equipment, uniforms, and subscriptions services With guidance from administration, organizes team travel Supervises students during practice times and competitions, including off-site travel Follows all DPS and VHSL policies, ensuring team compliance with all policies and regulations and eligibility guidelines Troubleshoots potential technical problems and coordinates with District IT staff Works with district administration to establish a vision for the program by establishing, publicizing, and promoting the program Performs additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Previous experience as a coach or participation in the sport at the high school or college level preferred
