Job Description

ASSISTANT BOYS' TENNIS COACH PORT ANGELES HIGH SCHOOL DESCRIPTION
Port Angeles High School is seeking an Assistant Boys Tennis Coach for the Fall 2026-27 season. The Assistant Coach will support the Head Coach in all aspects of the boys tennis program, including athlete development, practice organization, match preparation, and supervision of student-athletes. The successful candidate will help foster a positive and inclusive team environment that emphasizes sportsmanship, effort, and personal growth. Responsibilities include assisting with daily practices, supporting skill development in singles and doubles play, supervising athletes during matches, and assisting with program operations. The Assistant Coach will help ensure compliance with Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) regulations, league rules, and district athletic policies while supporting the academic and personal success of all student-athletes.
QUALIFICATIONS
Previous coaching or playing experience in tennis preferred  Knowledge of tennis fundamentals, rules, scoring, and match play strategy  Ability to assist in coaching singles and doubles play, including technique and positioning  Knowledge of or willingness to learn match procedures and lineup management  Strong communication and organizational skills  Ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes  Ability to work collaboratively with the Head Coach and coaching staff  Commitment to promoting sportsmanship, effort, and team culture  Ability to supervise students and maintain a safe environment  Knowledge of or willingness to learn WIAA rules and eligibility requirements  Must meet or be willing to obtain all WIAA coaching certification requirements  Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification, or ability to obtain prior to the season  Must be willing to complete all district-required safety training  Ability to maintain student confidentiality and follow district and school policies  Must be at least 21 years of age
ASSISTANT COACHES SUPPLEMENTAL CONTRACT
Assistant coaches whose positions are dependent on student participation will be offered provisional coaching positions. Provisional coaches will be hired for a one-week period of time through the 8th calendar day of the season; their contracts will be extended for the duration of the season only if the number of student participants justifies the additional coaching staff. In the event that student participation does not warrant the number of assistant coaches, provisional coaches shall be released from District employment after the eighth day of the season.
