GENERAL SUMMARY
The EMS skills instructor will teach EMT-B and AEMT (depending on certification level) students how to perform EMT skills as outlined by IMA and the
NREMT. EMS
skills instructors give hands on instruction based on the steps outlined in the skill sheets, supplemented by their experience as field providers. In addition to instruction, EMS Skills Instructors will also function as proctors to test EMT students on the IMA and NREMT skill sheets. The EMS Skills Instructor will use the objective criteria as outlined in the skills sheets to determine the student's competency in individual EMT skills as well as medical and trauma patient scenarios. Dependent on the instructor's experience and comfort level, EMS Skills Instructors may also be asked to fill in during lecture class sessions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Teaching essential EMT skills to students Proctoring EMT skills and scenario checks offs Creating realistic medical and trauma scenarios to use in class Following a class schedule as provided by the Lead Instructor Using computer programs including Microsoft Teams and Canvas Setting up and managing livestreams of classes Communicating the needs and progress of EMT classes with the Lead Instructor and/or EMS Director
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Performs all functions and fulfills all requirements of an IMA EMS Skills Instructor Maintains and request training equipment Performs related tasks as required
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Current EMT certification (nationally certified or Oregon licensed) Knowledge of rescue equipment and medical equipment used in Basic and Advanced Life Support Knowledge of instructional techniques and methods utilized for teaching classes Knowledge of pertinent federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations pertaining to emergency medical services Ability to effectively communicate in writing and verbally with the public, allied agencies, co-workers and staff Ability to read and comprehend technical written material Ability to instruct and evaluate technical, medical skills with a high degree of accuracy Ability to organize time effectively to accomplish prescribed duties and additional tasks Ability to engage and work with employees, other educational organizations, and the public with a positive, constructive attitude Ability to perform skilled, technical, medical duties Ability to learn new concepts in rescue, medical skills, and techniques in pre-hospital care Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions and orders Ability to maintain a professional attitude when representing the EMS Department Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, assisting agencies, hospital personnel, and the general public
SCHEDULE
Two weekends of each month (Thu-Sun) Must commit to 2 days minimum each weekend Open availability to pick up shifts (Mon-Thu)
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Incumbent must wear department-issued dress and safety uniforms or appropriate business attire while on duty and be responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of both dress and safety uniforms as well as any issued equipment
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Much of the work is performed in a classroom environment and involves a combination of standing, walking and sitting May be required to lift 50 lbs The work requires the incumbent to operate IMA programs ( MS 365, Airtable, Canvas), move, and operate medical equipment
