The Basketball Coach will lead the development of our young student-athletes, fostering both basketball skills and personal growth. This coach will collaborate closely with the Varsity program, aligning with Athletic Department philosophy, and increasingly reflect SJA's core values in every aspect of the program. About St.

Our mission revolves around the principles: We Engage - We Embrace- We Empower. We seek educators and coaches who live these values every day. Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Cultivate a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful team culture where every athlete feels valued o Model sportsmanship, integrity, and compassion o Build strong relationships with diverse student-athletes
  • Actively teach fundamentals of basketball and reinforce character education o Plan and conduct purposeful practices focusing on skill development (offense, defense, teamwork) o Teach game strategy, rules, fitness, and teamwork o Provide constructive feedback during games and weekly reflections o Establish season goals and evaluate the season in conjunction with the Head Coach and athletic director o Determine transportation needs in accordance with existing policy • Offer encouragement, mentoring, and role modeling o Promote personal accountability, attendance, punctuality, academic eligibility o Collaborate with Varsity staff to support student-athlete wellness Qualifications • Prior experience coaching basketball, preferably at the high school level • Strong understanding of fundamental skills, game strategy, and player development • Excellent communicator, motivator, and collaborator • Commitment to SJA's values and Catholic educational environment • Ability to pass necessary school background checks and trainings (e.
g., Safe Environment, concussion protocol)
  • Experience coaching young women athletes
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • CPR/First Aid Training/certification
Required Education:
High School or equivalent Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Ability to effectively communicate with participants, parents, and staff
  • Ability to foster positive working relationships
  • Ability to participate interactively with a diverse group of youth
  • Ability to work with groups of 20 or more young adults at a time Work Schedule
  • Seasonal commitment aligned with the basketball calendar o Official season: November - February o Practice Monday-Friday (4:00pm-6:00pm) sessions per week, excluding game days o Flexible availability for team/community events and coaching meetings o Accompany the team on away contests or tournaments o Attend recruitment events to grow the program: Open House, Registration Night, etc.
Pay:
$2,500.00 per year
