The applicant should possess a strong commitment to and demonstrated excellence in teaching, research, and service. The position is a full-time, 9-month faculty position. The successful candidate will meet and instruct assigned classes in the designated site-based locations (mornings, afternoons, & evenings), and teach a minimum of 12 credit hours per academic semester. The rank and tenure-status of the position is negotiable based on qualifications. The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work that is to be performed in the identified position. The statements are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel so classified as other duties may be assigned.
Examples of Duties Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach a minimum of four (4) undergraduate Spanish courses per semester in the English and General Education Program primarily. Actively participate and lead in the activities of the department, college, and university including recruitment and new course development (site-based and online course certifications). Serve on department committees. Engage in research, scholarly activities, recruitment and advising English majors. Schedule and attend a minimum of 10 hours of office hours per week. Perform other duties as assigned. Typical Qualifications Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.): An earned Ph.D. in Spanish, Spanish Education or a related field. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish as well as English. At least three (3) to five (5) years of experience in curriculum development, leadership and project management. At least three (3) to five (5) years of coursework and experience successfully teaching courses in the Spanish language at the college or university level.
Supplemental Information Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellence in oral and written communication skills. Excellence in teaching at the university level. Demonstrated leadership experience related to initiation and execution of committee work. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with university colleagues within a diverse environment. Ability to successfully advise, instruct, evaluate, and motivate first-generation college students. Ability to contribute to academic program development at the undergraduate and master's level. Ability to demonstrate proficiency in assessment of writing and critical thinking. Ability to learn AAMU's learning management system (Blackboard Ultra) and integrate the platform into teaching practices to include gradebook features. Ability to initiate and successfully execute projects. Evidence of excellence in teaching, including student evaluations or student comments are a plus. Experience and credentials in linguistics would be a plus. Experience teaching a diverse population and flexibility.
