Job Description
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UA Little Rock) is seeking to fill an Assistant Professor of Geology position to begin June 2026, with primary employment at 2801 South University Ave, Little Rock, AR 72204. The University of Arkansas at Little Rock is a metropolitan, state-supported research university. Little Rock's central location in Arkansas provides easy access to the diverse array of habitats found in the region. The feasibility of conducting environmental and ecosystem-based research is thus considerably enhanced. Furthermore, as the largest metropolitan city in the state, opportunities at local, state, national, and international levels abound. The Assistant Professor's duties and responsibilities include teaching Structural Geology, Field Geology, and Introductory Geology; Teach elective courses in the area of Geology; Design and lead field trips related to course content in the field of Geology; Design and implement laboratory activities related to course content in the field of Geology; Conduct Geology-related research, particularly with undergraduates; Advise and mentor undergraduate students in Geology; Potentially advise and mentor graduate students in applied science related to Geology; Contribute to the management and promotion of the Geology program; Perform other duties and services as needed in the program, school, college, and university; Participate in outreach and recruitment activities; Solicit research or project funding in Geology.
Travel:
This position requires travel to support the following activities: Field trips as part of teaching geology courses - mostly in Arkansas, but some field trips are outside of Arkansas, approximately 25 days annual or 10% of worktime. Travel to work on field-based research projects, domestic with occasional international travel, approximately 10 days annual (up to two weeks), or 4% of worktime. Travel to conferences and workshops related to professional development and dissemination of research findings, domestic with occasional international travel, approximately 10 days annual (up to one week, possible twice per year), or 4% of worktime.Minimum Education and Experience:
Doctorate Degree (PhD) in Geology, Geological Sciences, Geological Engineering, or a closely related field.
