Visiting Assistant Professor in Spanish (1 year)

Eastern Connecticut State University is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Visiting Assistant Professor ofSpanish, one-year appointment in the Department of World Languages and Cultures. Eastern is Connecticut's Public Liberal Arts University andis located in Willimantic, Connecticut which is 1.5 hours from Boston and 2.5 hours from New York City. Eastern is one of four universitiesin the Connecticut State College and University System (CSCU). The position also offers substantial health and retirement benefits.

Position Description:

Teaching duties are four courses per semester at all undergraduate levels and may include languageinstruction to heritage & non-heritage learners, courses in culture, upper-division conversation and composition, Spanish for theProfessions, film, and translation/interpretation. The successful candidate will join a small but dynamic department and will havesignificant language teaching experience and innovative ideas for upper-level courses in Spanish. Experience collaborating with communitypartners and engaging students in high-impact practices and potential to increase student recruitment & retention a plus. The successfulcandidate is expected to participate in departmental activities and engage in some academic advising.

Qualifications:

Minimum requirements include a Ph.D. in Spanish or a related discipline by the start of the appointment, andnative or near-native fluency in Spanish and English. The field of specialization is open, with a preference for Latin American studiesand/or Caribbean studies.
