Visting Assistant Professor of Film Production and Cinematic Media Reports to:
Dean of Linda Berry Stein College of Arts and Science Starting Date:
July 1, 2026
Position Type:
Full-Time, Exempt The Department of Media Arts invites applications for a full-time, Visiting position in Film Production and Cinematic Media at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment begins August 1, 2026.
POSITION
This is a nine-month, appointment in Film Production and Cinematic Media. The successful candidate will contribute to an interdisciplinary and collaborative media arts environment while supporting the continued growth of the undergraduate film program.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The selected candidate may teach undergraduate courses in areas such as film production, cinematography, directing, editing, screenwriting, sound design, post-production, and emerging cinematic workflows.
Additional responsibilities include:
Developing innovative curriculum and elective offerings in film and media production Mentoring student creative projects and fostering professional development opportunities Cultivating internship and industry partnerships Collaborating with faculty across Media Arts and related disciplines Participating in departmental assessment, strategic planning, and accreditation activities Oversee equipment cage and resources. Assisting with recruitment initiatives, open house events, screenings, festivals, and community outreach Supporting ongoing updates to production technologies, facilities, and workflows
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
MFA or other terminal degree in Film, Cinematic Arts, Media Production, or a closely related field; equivalent professional experience may also be considered Demonstrated record of professional, scholarly, or creative activity in film or media production Experience teaching or mentoring students in film production and cinematic storytelling Proficiency in industry-standard production and post-production tools and workflows Evidence of collaborative practice and the ability to work across creative and technical discipline. Areas of expertise may include one or more of the following: Narrative or documentary filmmaking Cinematography and lighting design Screenwriting and story development Producing and production management Digital cinema technologies and studio production Strong organizational and administrative skills, along with a collaborative approach to creative production, are highly valued. The department seeks candidates who can inspire students while contributing to a forward-thinking and inclusive learning environment.

Physical Requirements:
Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and virtually. Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screens Stamina to teach up to 24 hours weekly.
