5344 Position Vacancy Announcement Florida A&M University's College of Agriculture and Food Sciences is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for a full-time (9-month) tenure-earning Assistant Professor vacancy. Responsibilities The Assistant Professor of Veterinary Technology is a nine-month, tenure-track faculty position within the College of Agriculture and Food Sciences at Florida A&M University, an 1890 Land-Grant Institution. The position carries a 60% teaching and 40% research and extension appointment. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the University's tripartite mission of teaching, research, and extension, with emphasis on workforce development, applied research, community engagement, and service to historically underserved populations. Primary responsibilities include undergraduate instruction, program support and student success activities, clinical service, and the development of a research and/or extension program aligned with USDA and 1890 priorities. Teaching responsibilities within the Veterinary Technology Program include: Deliver high-quality undergraduate instruction that prepares students for successful completion of program requirements and the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE), including hands-on laboratory and clinical instruction involving all domestic species; Develop, revise, and implement course content, instructional materials, and curricula that support continuous improvement and accreditation standards of the Veterinary Technology Program; and utilize effective and inclusive teaching strategies appropriate for multicultural student populations, including delivery in face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats. Integrate experiential learning, applied clinical skills, and industry-relevant competencies into coursework; Collaborate with the Animal Science Program and other academic units to develop interdisciplinary and innovative courses consistent with workforce and industry needs; Assist with recruitment, retention, and advising of students in the Veterinary Technology Program; and support the expansion of internship, practicum, and experiential learning opportunities in collaboration with industry, agency, and community partners. Ensuring compliance with institutional policies, professional standards, veterinary procedures, ethical guidelines, and applicable state and federal regulations; Supervise assigned staff and supporting the operational needs of the Veterinary Technology Program; and participate in departmental, college, and university service activities, including committee assignments and other duties consistent with faculty governance and shared service expectations. Serving as a Clinical Veterinarian at the Florida A&M University Research and Extension Center; Perform routine clinical procedures, including diagnostics, treatment, and surgery, in support of teaching, research, and extension activities; Provide clinical oversight for instructional laboratories and for demonstration and research animals housed at the Research and Extension Center; and conduct clinical activities that are closely aligned with instructional objectives and student training in veterinary technology. Develop and sustain a relevant, applied, and impactful research and/or extension program aligned withUSDA, 1890
Land-Grant, and Florida A&M University priorities; Secure extramural funding to support research, extension, and outreach activities; Deliver extension programming that addresses the needs of FAMU clientele, including producers, communities, and other stakeholders, with emphasis on improving animal health, workforce development, and community capacity; Disseminate research and extension outcomes through publications, presentations, reports, and stakeholder engagement activities; and collaborate with faculty, extension professionals, and external partners to support integrated research, teaching, and extension initiatives. MPH, or DVM/PhD Recommended Competencies Student-centered philosophy in support of academic excellence; Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on quick response time; Ability to work in a multicultural environment and participate in multi-institution collaborations; Effective problem-solving and interpersonal skills; A demonstrated ability to learn and use necessary technology quickly and adeptly; and, A passion and enthusiasm for the veterinary profession. Preferred Qualifications DVM/Ph.D. combination. Demonstrated expertise in animal genetics and/or breeding and biotechnology. Experience applying conventional and molecular techniques in animal genetics. Broad experience in animal agriculture and production systems. Evidence of effective teaching and mentoring of students from academic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to work successfully in multidisciplinary teams and diverse academic and professional environments. Licenses and Certifications Teaching experience preferred but not required and a Florida Veterinary License is also preferred; Pay Plan This is a Faculty position.
