Job Description

Responsibilities:
Teaching a 2-2 courseload within the Department of Geography (4 courses per year), with at least one course in the African American Studies core curriculum, a second course at the nexus of race and geography, and other courses in the geography curriculum consistent with the candidate's expertise. Will perform research in the candidate's area of expertise and engage in service to the department (committees and doctoral student supervision), the university, and the profession.
Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Geography or a closely related field.
Other Special Skills or Requirements:
We seek candidates who can connect their research to one of more of the areas of established departmental expertise: Urban Flows, Social Justice, Comate Change and Disasters, Conservation and Sustainability, and Health Geographies. Areas of interest may include but are not limited to Environmental Justice, Social Movements, Racial Segregation, Housing and Gentrification, Health Disparities, Policing and Incarceration, Community Development, and/or Race, Gender, and Sexuality. We encourage applications from researchers focused on experience across the Black diaspora, including Latin America, the Afro-Caribbean, and the United States. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated commitment to sustaining a research agenda in Black Geographies. Publication of research in outlets appropriate to the candidate's specialty is expected. Strong candidates will also express a desire to engage in high-quality classroom instruction and to act as mentors for graduate students. The ideal candidate should also be able to demonstrate future promise and potential in the areas of research, teaching, and service. The background check will be conducted as authorized and in accordance with University Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11.
