Assistant/Associate Professor, Biology Location Demorest (Main) Campus Job Type Full-Time Faculty - 9 Month Job Number 202600146 Division College of Arts and Sciences Department Natural Sciences Department Opening Date 04/08/2026 Description Founded in 1897, Piedmont University is a private, comprehensive liberal arts university with an enrollment of approximately 2,000students at campuses in Demorest and Athens, Georgia. Description TheAssistant/Associate Professor of Biology serves in the Natural Sciences Department at Piedmont University. The faculty teach undergraduatecourses in biology. Specific responsibilities are teaching introductory biology courses with the associated labs, as well as courses inareas of interest or expertise. The position also provides an opportunity to direct student research. Additional duties include departmentalservice and advising. This is a non-tenure track position, this is a permanent, full-time position intended for long-term colleagues who arean integral part of our departmental faculty. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Effective classroom and lab teaching and interacting with students in a professional manner. Maintaining accurate and secure recordsof student grades, attendance, and advisement. Maintaining high standards of professionalism in all courses' content, objectives,teaching, and grading. Maintaining an understanding of college policies and their respective colleges' curriculum and degreerequirements. Participating in departmental, school, and college faculty meetings and serving on committees as appropriate. Contributing to the ongoing operation of their respective departments and colleges. Assessing their teaching effectiveness via annualportfolios and evaluating courses formally in accordance with official college procedure. Assuring their availability to students,faculty, staff, and administrators by posting and keeping reasonable office hours, as determined by the dean of their respectivecolleges. Maintaining a professional level of scholarship by continuous study, research, and attendance and participation atprofessional meetings. The college supports these activities through departmental travel funds and the faculty development program. Other relevant duties as assigned. Regular and predictable attendance is required. On-site work is required. Incumbents mustremain relevant in the area of employment and flexible to changes in work related to institutional needs. TypicalQualifications Education and Qualifications Ph.D. in biology or a related field Preferencewill be given to candidates with the following: Use of active learning strategies and student-centered policies. Desire to become an active member of a thriving department. Ability to teach Anatomy and Physiology and/or Microbiology. Licenses and Certifications Valid Georgia Driver's License (or obtained within 30 days of hire date) andsatisfactory MVR. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Working knowledge of teaching courses in a higher educationenvironment. Ability to combine several pieces of information and draw conclusions. Ability to use reasoning to discover and answerproblems. Skill in using original, unusual, and/or creative ways to solve problems. Ability to speak clearly so listeners canunderstand. Ability to understand written and spoken information. Supplemental Information Environmental, Physical, and Visual Acuity Factors Work will be performed inside environmental conditions:

Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Incumbents will perform primarily sedentary work, exertingup to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwisemove objects, including the human body. Incumbents will regularly get up and down from a seated position, reach, bend, and stand throughoutthe day. Incumbents must have close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, transcribe, view a computer terminal, andread extensively.
