Mathematics Job Description SummaryThe Department of Mathematics at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore invites applicants for a full-time, nine-month, tenure track position teaching mathematics courses.Salary Range:
$75,000 - $95,000Benefits:
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore, as a University System of Maryland institution and a Maryland State agency, provides a comprehensive benefits package to all regular faculty and staff. Responsibilities:
- Teach twelve (12) credit hours of undergraduate-level Mathematics coursesper semester (which may include web-based or other non-traditionalinstructional delivery methods) in Algebra, Calculus, Statistics, and upper levelcourses to support our mathematics degree tracks.
- Develop and deliver course information to foster student learning and increasestudent engagement.
- Collaborate with the Department on the issues of course placement,remediation, and overall course design.
- Evaluate and revise department curriculum, course materials, and deliverymethods as changes in pedagogy and teaching environments warrant.
- Review, evaluate, and revise Department policy and curriculum in conjunctionwith other Department members to enhance student academic and careersuccess.
- Prepare and execute an annual personal development program includingincreasing both course content knowledge and teaching effectiveness skills.
- Performs other related duties assigned by the department Chair.
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Statistics, Actuarial Science, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or related area. ABD candidates will be considered for this position. ABD candidates will be considered if degree is conferred by the effective date of appointment.
- Candidates must provide evidence or potential for productivity in teaching undergraduate coursework, in research/scholarship, and service to the Department, University, and the Profession.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Strong communication skills, including written communication.
- Ability to effectively communicate fundamental mathematics content to students.
- Must have the ability to handle multiple tasks, assess and order priorities, and track details in an intense environment.
Physical Demands:
- May require extended periods of standing, bending, stooping, sitting at desk.
- May require lifting.
- Requires communication with a variety of constituents externally and internally.
- Requires operation of a variety of office equipment.
