Job Description

About the Job The Department of Theatre at the University of Minnesota Duluth invites applications for a one-year term faculty position in Voice & Speech at the Assistant Professor level for the 2026-2027 academic year. Faculty appointments begin August 24, 2026 and will end May 23, 2027. This position is a 100% appointment over the 9-month academic year.
Responsibilities include:
providing voice and speech coursework, mentorship, and guidance to theatre students; providing additional coursework in aligned area(s) of expertise to support department curriculum; supporting our active production season by providing voice, text, and accent coaching for productions; potential additional involvement in the season as a director; and providing departmental service and other requisite duties as requested. Qualifications Required Qualifications Terminal degree in discipline from a regionally accredited university with two years teaching voice and speech at the university level (graduate school teaching experience accepted) or in the professional theatre field OR demonstrated equivalent professional experience. Demonstration of effective teaching and mentorship. Specific knowledge in one vocal methodology (such as Linklater) but an understanding of other vocal training techniques. Active VASTA membership. The desire, ability, and patience to effectively teach and train students of all levels. Evidence of sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, LGBTQ, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students. Preferred Qualifications Three or more years of professional experience in a similar position or in the professional theatre field. Three or more years of university teaching experience (graduate school teaching experience accepted). Certification in a voice system such as Linklater, Fitzmaurice, Knight-Thompson, etc.
Pay and Benefits Pay Range:
$49,829 - $55,000 per year; depending on education/qualifications/experience
