Job Description
Rivier University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Biology. Reporting to the Program Coordinator for Arts and Sciences and working in collaboration with all science faculty, this is a nine-month, full-time, exempt, benefit eligible, renewable, non-tenure track faculty position. This is an opportunity to work in a new state-of-the-art science facility and serve as an active teacher scholar who values undergraduate research and mentoring. This position is responsible for providing instruction in medical microbiology, medical microbiology lab, and non-majors general education courses in environmental science.
Supervision Received:
Direction and general supervision are received from the Program Coordinator for Arts and Sciences.Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
Full time 9-month contract.- An earned doctorate in biological science or health profession
- All candidates should have experience teaching biology at the university level and a demonstrated ability and enthusiasm to teach a broad range of undergraduate biology courses.
- Desire to mentor undergraduate students in their course work, research and career goals.
- Knowledge of the field with a record of scholarship and a willingness to conduct research in an undergraduate setting.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Classroom and lab sessions that students on active learning
- Ensuring lab safety and instruction consistent with course learning objectives
- Development of learning assessment strategies including tests, assignments, experiments and grading students fairly. strategies including tests, assignments, experiments and grading students fairly.
- Ability to engage in critical thinking and exercise independent judgement.
- Ability to collaborate with other faculty and staff and maintain collegial relations.
- Responsible for performing duties as a full-time faculty member.
- Computer skills and pro iciency with a variety of computer applications including word processing, online teaching and reporting platforms, as well as online calendaring and email
- Managing administrative tasks such as updating student records and managing lab supplies and equipment
Physical Demands:
- This position requires the ability to occasionally lift of ice and laboratory products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
