Job Description
Faculty members are primarily teachers and are responsible for the preparation and implementation of assigned courses. The college expects faculty members to spend approximately three quarters of their time in teaching responsibilities. Teaches 15 hours per week of courses in sociology and related fields, including geography and anthropology (e.g., introductory sociology, social problems, cultural diversity, social inequality, or other specialized topics as assigned) Maintains a minimum of three office hours per week Develops and teaches appropriate course content for classroom, remote, and online delivery that conforms to current specifications for accessibility Communicates and executes classroom plans effectively Clarifies to students the expectations and standards for all assignments, assessments, and class activities Advises students and shows concern for their academic welfare, providing assistance with coursework and setting goals Pursues professional development and increased knowledge in pedagogy, the field of sociology and other related fields through avenues such as self- and graduate study, workshops, and conferences Collaborates with other Social Science faculty to select instructional resources Assists in the development of effective methods for evaluating student learning and establishing clearly defined grading standards and procedures, maintaining course consistency and academic rigor Adheres to departmental and college policies Participates in curriculum development and revision Participates in departmental course assessment and program review activities
Education:
Master's degree in Sociology or a closely related field (with a concentration in sociology)Experience:
Two years of teaching experience in sociology and / or related fields at the college level Experience with WCAG/ accessibility compliance a plusCompetencies and Skills:
Demonstrated teaching excellence with diverse student populations Strong communication, analytical, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to engage students in sociological inquiry Ability to deliver course instruction in-person, remotely (e.g., via Zoom or similar platforms), and online through Blackboard or a comparable LMS Familiarity with Microsoft Office products,Google Docs, and Slides Terms of Employment:
