  • The Department of Radiation Oncology at URMC is a leader in clinical care, research, and education, operating eight treatment sites and treating approximately 3,000 new radiation cases annually.
The department maintains a robust research portfolio spanning basic, translational, and clinical science, supported by state‑of‑the‑art core facilities, strong institutional infrastructure, and integration with the Wilmot Cancer Institute.

  • tenure‑track faculty position

  • level. We seek an exceptional scientist committed to developing an
  • independent, NIH‑funded translational research program
  • in areas such as
  • cancer biology
  • , •normal tissue toxicity•, •radiation biology•, and/or •implementation science•.
This position includes

  • , •competitive startup funding•, and access to extensive institutional resources to accelerate the translation of discovery into meaningful improvements in cancer care.
The successful candidate will join a vibrant, collaborative research community within the Wilmot Cancer Institute, with opportunities to partner closely with clinicians, physicists, biologists, and population scientists.
  • Responsibilities
  • + Develop and sustain an innovative, independent research program with strong potential for NIH or equivalent extramural funding.
+ Conduct high‑impact translational research aimed at rapidly improving outcomes and quality of life for cancer patients. + Deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered radiation oncology care, including consultation, treatment planning, on‑treatment management, and follow‑up (as appropriate). + Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and collaborate closely with medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiology, pathology, and supportive care teams (as appropriate) + Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across the Wilmot Cancer Institute and the broader URMC research ecosystem. + Mentor graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and trainees. + Contribute to departmental and institutional research initiatives, seminars, and collaborative programs. + Participate in teaching activities consistent with rank and research focus.
  • Qualifications
  • Minimum requirements:
  • Required:
  • + PhD, MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree in a relevant field (e.
g., cancer biology, radiation biology, molecular biology, pharmacology, biomedical engineering, or related disciplines). + Demonstrated research productivity through peer‑reviewed publications. + Evidence of potential (Assistant Professor) or established success (Associate/Full Professor) in securing extramural funding. + Strong commitment to translational research with clear relevance to cancer care. + Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Preferred:
  • + Research experience in one or more of the following: + Mechanisms of radiation response + Normal tissue injury and toxicity + Cancer biology and therapeutic resistance + Cellular or molecular therapeutics + Implementation science or health‑systems‑based research + Experience mentoring trainees at various levels.
+ A track record of collaborative, team‑based science. A post-offer health assessment and criminal background check are required.
