About this Position
Visiting Assistant Professor of Speech
The Department of Psychology and Speech at Oklahoma State University seeks applications for two Visiting Assistant Professor of Speech with a start date of August 2026. This is a temporary, non-tenure-track, 9 month position. This position will teach 4 courses each semester. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach in-person courses on the Stillwater, OK campus; however, applicants able to teach online courses remotely will also be considered.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidates will teach four courses per semester in Speech Communication, with primary instructional needs in SPCH 2713
Introduction to Speech Communication. This may include teaching SPCH 2713
through Cowboy Concurrent Online courses (CCO), which are online dual-credit courses that provide high school students across Oklahoma with access to college coursework while still in high school. Depending on departmental needs and the candidates' qualifications, the position may also include opportunities to teach upper-division courses such as SPCH 4753
Intercultural Communication. The position is focused primarily on high-quality undergraduate instruction and supporting a large-service teaching mission that serves students across Oklahoma State University. The successful candidates will be expected to contribute to departmental instructional needs, maintain regular office hours, participate in routine departmental activities related to teaching, and work collaboratively with faculty and staff to support student success.
About the Department of Psychology and Speech
The Oklahoma State University Department of Psychology and Speech is committed to research, teaching, and outreach. In addition to undergraduate programs in Psychology and Graduate programs in Clinical and Experimental Psychology, the Department currently houses 5 full-time faculty devoted to teaching Speech classes that serve university-wide needs. Speech Communication courses play an important role in the university curriculum, including general education and major requirements for numerous degree programs across multiple colleges.

Required Qualifications
Master's degree in Speech Communication, Communication Studies, or a closely related field by the start date
(degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
Evidence of successful teaching at the college or university level, or strong promise of effective teaching Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:
Ability to teach introductory public speaking and related communication courses
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively mentor and collaborate with students and colleagues
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in Speech Communication, Communication Studies, or a closely related field
Experience working with high school students is particularly desirable
Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:
Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate courses effectively
