Job Summary The Department of Applied Economics and the Extension Agriculture and Natural Resources Program of the OSU College of Agricultural Sciences (CAS) invite applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term Assistant Professor of Practice position in the area of Agricultural Economics. Reappointment of this Applied Economist is at the discretion of the supervisory team which includes the CAS Agriculture and Natural Resources Program Leader, and the Head of the Department of Applied Economics. The faculty member will design, coordinate, implement, deliver, and evaluate multi-facetedmunity, farm and ranch Extension programs across Oregon counties. The individual may contribute to assessments of enterprise profitability and the impact of novel technologies or management strategies on financial or economic oues. Related priority areas include preparation of enterprise budgets of costs and returns for different activities. Other areas of responsibility may include economic impact analysis, farm financial management, guidance on crop insurance and other risk management alternatives, and farm labor management. The individual may also generate analysis in support of market development or process development efforts within the larger agricultural system or food supply chain. The faculty member will translate economic research and data into practical decision support tools, including Extension publications, economic impact analyses, briefs, presentations, and visual materials appropriate for diverse Extension audiences. The person in this position will work in close coordination with other extension faculty in AEC. The faculty member must demonstrate amitment to inclusive excellence through service or specific job duties, such as developing and presenting programs targeting underrepresented populations. Key Responsibilities 70% Extension Teaching and Related Assignments (a) Extension Teaching Utilize Oregon State University's Quality Teaching Framework to deliver high‑quality, non‑credit Extension education in agricultural, natural resource, and rural economics. Conduct ongoing needs‑assessment activities to identify priority economic issues affecting agricultural producers, land managers, and ruralmunities in Oregon. Develop, design, and deliver Extension educational programming to the Oregonmunities on applied economics. Programming topics may include but are not limited to: Enterprise budgeting and cost-benefit analysis of projects, Market trends, labor economics, risk management, and economic resilience, Farm and ranch profitability, Economic impact analysis, Agricultural production costs and input markets, Water allocation, irrigation, and water management economics, Agricultural policy and regulatory impacts, Energy, climate, and natural resource economics. Translate economic research and data into practical decision‑support tools, including Extension publications, economic impact analyses, briefs, presentations, and visual materials appropriate for diverse Extension audiences. Deliver Extension education using a variety of teaching and engagement methods, including workshops, field days, webinars, virtual meetings, one‑on‑one consultations, and written or digital materials. Integrate economic analysis into multidisciplinary Extension programs by collaborating with county‑based faculty, research center scientists, and state specialists. Design and implement evaluation protocols to assess and document Extension program oues and impacts. Use technology to increase the reach and effectiveness of Extension programming, including participation in Ask Extension and other electronicmunication platforms. Engage in Extension teaching that supports equity, inclusion, and access for all audiences and document related outputs and impacts. (b) Partnerships, Collaboration, and Networking Develop and maintain networks of regional partners to support Extension programming and applied economics work, including agricultural producers, irrigation districts, conservationanizations, tribal entities, local governments, and state and federal agencies. Evaluate and document applied economic research oues andmunicate results through Extension publications, presentations, and other outreach venues. Collaborate with Extension faculty, researchers, and industry partners to design and implement relevant applied economic research projects relevant to regional priorities. Contribute economic analysis and evaluationponents to grant‑funded projects, contracts, and service agreements that support Extension education and applied research. Maintain awareness of economic, policy, and industry trends at local, regional, and state levels and integrate findings into Extension programming. 5% Service Participate in departmental, Extension, college, and university meetings,mittees, and activities consistent with the responsibilities of the position. Serve as a liaison to regionalanizations and professional groups relevant to agricultural and natural resource economics. Engage in professional development and maintain active involvement in appropriate professionalanizations. What You Will Need Master's degree in Agricultural Economics, Applied Economics, Economics, Business Administration, or a closely related field that will meet the duties of this position. Demonstrated experience conducting applied economic analyses relevant to agriculture or ruralmunities. Demonstrated ability to translate economic data and analysis into clear, practical information for non-technical audiences. Demonstrated written and oralmunication skills, including experience presenting to stakeholder groups. Experience working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including producers, agency partners, and Extension or outreach professionals. Demonstrated ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Willingness and ability to travel regularly within the region to support Extension programming and stakeholder engagement. Work experience in the private or government sector related to agriculture, business and/or rural economic development.
