The School of Education within the College of Health, Education, and Professional Studies at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track assistant professor generalist position. The position will start in August 2026. The ideal candidate would have the following qualities: A Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education with an emphasis in English/Language Arts (ELA), grades 6-12, or a closely related field is preferred. We seek a highly qualified educator with demonstrated experience in K-12 settings. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in English or a related discipline and experience teaching at the university level. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in a range of instructional methodologies and the effective integration of technology in course delivery. Additionally, the candidate will have experience using technology and implementing innovative, research-based instructional strategies in higher education. The position includes leadership of the UTC Job-Embedded Program, including supervision of job-embedded teacher candidates, clinical supervisors, and mentor teachers. Responsibilities include designing and facilitating job-embedded seminars; providing ongoing training and support to candidates, supervisors, and mentors; and ensuring alignment with state and institutional licensure requirements. Collaborate closely with the School of Education (SOE) Clinical Placements team to coordinate field-based experiences and maintain strong partnerships with Local Education Agencies (LEAs). This role requires consistent communication and collaboration with school and district personnel to support candidate success and program effectiveness. Engage in ongoing professional learning and scholarship in teacher education, with particular attention to clinically rich and job-embedded pathways to licensure. Contribute to continuous program improvement through data-informed decision-making and alignment with Tennessee educator preparation standards. This is an ideal opportunity for an established scholar looking for a new challenge in our growing department within UTC's School of Education. Additionally, Chattanooga offers a range of K-12 classroom settings that interest those seeking to form partnerships and conduct research in both urban and rural environments. UTC's collegial and dynamic Teacher Education Program has 19 faculty, more than 135 graduate students, and over 375 undergraduates. Faculty research interests span the field of education, including curriculum, literacy, instruction, technology, and leadership. The successful candidate will be able to teach a variety of introductory and advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in education and be adept at relating course content to the professional practice and licensure requirements. Candidates with teaching or professional experience in literacy, teaching English, or any related educational field are particularly encouraged to apply. The position requires strong teaching skills, advising and mentoring graduate students, and service to the institution.

Three or more years of experience as a K-12 teacher. Demonstrated potential for excellence in instruction and supervision. A potential or emerging line of research Willingness to engage in a variety of instructional modalities, including online instruction. Willingness to assist in reaching additional goals of UTC's Strategic Plan Fulfill expectations for teaching, advising, and supervision. Teach and develop courses consistent with the needs of the School of Education. Support programs and majors at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Fulfill expectations to the School of Education, College, University, and the profession (including, but not limited to, committee work, advising students, maintaining regular office hours, participating in departmental governance, and meaningful participation in department-sponsored educational events).Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with non-traditional teacher candidates and/or job-embedded teacher candidates Demonstrated experience integrating technology and implementing effective instructional technology strategies in educational settings Experience developing community partnerships that enhance teacher preparation through mentorship and/or coaching models. Teaching experience in elementary, middle, or secondary general education and public school settings Membership and involvement in professional organizations.Responsibilities:
