Be the First to Apply Job Description Assistant Professor of History & Teacher Education Program Coordinator Job Summary The Department of History at East Tennessee State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of History who will also serve as Teacher Education Program Coordinator . We seek a scholar specializing in U.S. History with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, collaborative leadership, and program development. Successful candidates will be expected to balance an active research agenda, service assignments, and a 3/3 teaching load consisting of advanced undergraduate and master's level courses in the candidate's area of specialty in addition to survey courses in U.S. history. Responsibilities The successful candidate will:
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in U.S. history, historical methods, and history education. Provide leadership and oversight of the History Teacher Education program, including curriculum development and assessment. Mentor teacher education candidates, including observing student teaching in regional schools. Maintain an active research agenda in U.S. history. Engage in service at the departmental, college, and university levels. Collaborate with faculty across disciplines to support educator preparation initiatives. Required Qualifications Ph.D. in History or a closely related field by the time of appointment. Evidence of scholarly potential in U.S. history (preference given to a scholar whose research compliments an existing strength within the department). Demonstrated commitment to high-quality teaching and student advising or mentorship. Experience or strong interest in history teacher preparation or social studies education. Preferred Qualifications Active Tennessee state teaching license. Demonstrated ability to teach Tennessee history. Experience with program coordination, curriculum design, or accreditation processes in teacher preparation. Prior teaching experience at the college level.
