Job Description

Be the First to Apply Job Description Job Summary The Division of Cross-Disciplinary Studies (CDST) seeks a full-time, nine-month tenure-track faculty member with a commitment to the success of students from all walks of life, including those interested in an interdisciplinary focus as well as post-traditional and first-generation learners, many of whom are navigating work, family, and educational goals simultaneously. Average 3-3 teaching load (18 credits total per academic year) plus the expectation of research activity and departmental/ institutional/ professional service. Courses taught are mostly online, with some on-ground sections possible.
Please note:
this is not a remote position; the successful candidate is expected to maintain an acceptable level of in-person presence on campus during the regular academic year. Possibility of periodic graduate teaching for candidates with relevant preparation and interests. Summer teaching option possible.
Key responsibilities include:
Designing and teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses that bridge disciplines and center multiple ways of knowing Developing and sustaining a productive research or creative agenda that informs classroom teaching and contributes to the field Mentoring all students with respectful, empathetic engagement while maintaining appropriate academic rigor Assisting students in designing academic programs of study that match their interests and goals Collaborating across departments to develop integrative curricula and co-curricular programming Engaging in departmental, college, and university service, including participating in retention and student success initiatives Contributing to ongoing assessment and continuous improvement of CDST programs CDST houses graduate as well as undergraduate interdisciplinary degree programs and is part of ETSU's Clemmer College of Education and Human Development. The department's mission is to provide interdisciplinary studies and degree completion options to a wide variety of both traditional and post-traditional students, and to help promote and facilitate interdisciplinary teaching and research collaboration across the college and the university. All positions at East Tennessee State University are contingent upon sufficient funding. Required Qualifications Ph.D. or other terminal degree in a relevant field from a regionally-accredited institution or its international equivalent; ABD candidates may be considered with the expectation that the terminal degree will be completed within one year of hire. Academic preparation or experience in adult learning and/or post-traditional pedagogy, interdisciplinary theory and practice, the liberal arts, and/or related areas Experience with online teaching using a digital course management platform Preferred Qualifications Teaching and/or research interests in areas such as interdisciplinary learning/ theory/practice, transformational learning, liberal/global education, design thinking, interdisciplinary research methods, cultural studies, STEAM studies, leadership/workforce/ organizational studies, human services, or related fields Evidence of an active research agenda Experience with and passion for facilitating senior-level capstone research projects Evidence of an excellent teaching record Compensation & Benefits Compensation dependent on experience and education.
