NoneTHIS POSITION WILL BEGIN AUGUST 2026 GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
As a full-time (9 month) faculty member, the Assistant Professor of Computer Science will be primarilyresponsible for teaching a variety of undergraduate computer science courses. Additionally, faculty members are expected to have anauthentic Christian faith that is evident through their personal interactions and activities, commitment to a local church body, and is amodel for our students. Faculty should seek out mentoring relationships with the students through opportunities such as academic advising,undergraduate research, and student organization support.SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES
1. Prepare and teach (24)semester hours each academic year. 2. Maintain a minimum of 10 hours of office hours/week. 3. Commitment to leadingundergraduate research. 4. Academically advise undergraduate students and assist with registrations and recruiting events. 5. Assist the dean and faculty members in developing new computer science programs, reporting data, selecting textbooks, and developingsyllabi. 6. Serve on University, Faculty, and School Committees; assist with and attend graduations and school events, and attendscheduled faculty/staff meetings. The above statements are not a complete list of all responsibilities and duties performed byemployees in this position. Employee may perform other related duties as assigned by the Dean of the School of Math & Science or the VicePresident of Academic Affairs.QUALIFICATIONS
A commitment to and an agreement with the purposes and philosophy of Christianhigher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas in general and Wayland Baptist University in particular.Academic:
Doctorate in Computer Science or closely related field with at least eighteen graduate hours in computerscience. ABD applicants will also be considered.Experience and Knowledge:
Successful applicants will have thefollowing experience or knowledge: 1. Recent experience teaching computer science in a college or university setting. 2.Experience with or interest in online course development and/or teaching. 3. Research ideas suitable for undergraduate students. 4. A commitment to innovation in teaching. 5. Proficiency with an online Learning Management System (BlackBoard, Canvas,etc.) or willingness to learn BlackBoard to maintain attendance and grades for classes. 6. Additionally, preference will be given toapplicants with experience in Data Science.Skills and Abilities:
Successful applicants will have the following skillsor abilities: 1. Evidence of the successful teaching of object-oriented programming, with preference given to applicants alsoqualified to teach database systems, web programming, and/or software engineering. 2. Fluency in the English language with theability to effectively communicate information and ideas orally and in writing. 3. The ability to manage multiple tasks andresponsibilities with no direct supervision. 4. Proficiency with computers, technology, and related educational/classroom equipment. 5. A strong interest in teaching and leading in the growth and development of undergraduate students. 6. The ability anddesire to apply Christian principles in the workplace. 7. Willingness to make trips as required for professional activities.Additional Requirements:
Endorsement by the Vice President of Academic Affairs. Able to pass backgroundchecks. Must have no delinquent or defaulted items on Credit Report. A credit check will be conducted to ensure therequirement is met.THE UNIVERSITY

The chemistry program has received a Welch departmental researchgrant continuously since 2007 to fund undergraduate research. The school is also a recipient of the NSF Noyce grant for training future STEMeducators through engagement in research. The university strongly supports the Math and Sciences undergraduate research program by providingindividual funds for research and travel. Faculty are not required to pursue funding through grants, but do have university support(including grant-writing assistance) if they choose to pursue outside funding.
