Job TitleAssistant Professor Agency Texas A&M University - Victoria Department College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences Proposed Minimum SalaryCommensurate Job LocationVictoria, Texas Job TypeFaculty Job Description The Department of Social Science in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at Texas A&M University-Victoria invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Criminal Justice. A&M-Victoria is a Hispanic-serving institution, located in the Coastal Bend region of southeast Texas. The main campus is in Victoria, TX, approximately 2 hours from Houston, Austin, Corpus Christi, and San Antonio. A&M-Victoria enrolls approximately 3,300 students. This position is based in Victoria, TX, and requires face-to-face teaching. The successful applicant is expected to play a large role in supporting undergraduate teaching, thus contributing to campus and student life in Victoria. The Criminal Justice faculty serves a variety of needs for the institution. The undergraduate program serves students seeking the residential experience through face-to-face classes in Victoria and non-traditional students seeking a degree through online programs. Faculty may teach core Criminal Justice courses at the lower division for all undergraduate students.
Position summary:
Candidates will be required to teach a combination of courses in the Criminal Justice undergraduate program. The candidate will mentor undergraduate students. Candidates are expected to maintain excellence in teaching; participate in course and program development; perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and the Chair of the Department of Social Science; and perform all other related activities as required. This position will start in Fall 2026 and is renewable on an annual basis. Opportunities for summer teaching might be available based on demand and departmental need.
Required qualifications:
A Doctoral degree in Criminal Justice, or in a closely related Criminal Justice field by the starting date, as well as demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level.
Preferred qualifications:
A PhD in Criminal Justice or a PhD in a closely related field. A background in Legal Studies is highly desirable. Candidates should be capable of teaching a wide variety of courses at the lower and upper division, as well those who have interest in program development through the expansion of on-campus service, specifically extracurricular and experiential learning opportunities for students. Candidates who have taught face-to-face undergraduate courses and have demonstrated involvement with students on campus are preferred, but some experience teaching on-line would be helpful.
