Job Description

The Health Sciences Department at Utah Valley University is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor. This full-time faculty position is part of a supportive and dynamic team and is integral to UVU's commitment to providing an exceptional and engaged learning environment for its students. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and teaching undergraduate courses in a variety of health-related subjects, including medical terminology, human diseases, nutrition and disease, intro to health professions, workplace wellness, and other health courses as needed. Teaching responsibilities will include 12 credit hours per semester and may be delivered in a variety of modalities, including in-person, online, and hybrid formats. In addition to teaching, the faculty member will engage in scholarly activities and provide service to the department, college, and university. This role is vital to supporting UVU's mission of student success, and the new professor will be expected to uphold the highest ethical and professional standards. Minimum qualifications include a master's degree from an accredited institution in Health Science or a closely related field, along with at least 6 months of postsecondary teaching experience. A terminal degree and a demonstrated record of scholarly research are preferred. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms, online, and laboratories through demonstration, discussion, visual aids, individualized instruction, lectures, and other appropriate educational delivery methods. Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught. Prepares instructional materials. Evaluates student performance using appropriate testing and grading procedures. Engages in scholarly activities, including applied research, and produces scholarly/creative work consistent with disciplinary specialization and the academic goals of the department. Serves the department, college, and university by attending departmental meetings, working on committees, and accepting other service appointments. Graduation from an accredited institution with a master's degree in Health Science or a closely related academic field. Minimum of six months post-secondary teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
At least three years of related teaching, training, and/or industry experience. Evidence of scholarly research. Knowledge Teaching experience or expertise in at least three of the following areas is desirable: Human Diseases, Medical Terminology, and Introduction to Health Professions. Knowledge of subject matter and course content pertinent to Health Sciences. Knowledge of online teaching environments, such as Canvas or other course management systems. Skills Interpersonal and written communication skills. Problem-solving and decision-making skills. Curriculum development skills. Soft skills in maintaining professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community. Proficient in executing scholarly activities and contributing to service endeavors, with a teaching focus that complements the Department of Health Sciences. Specific interest in teaching introductory courses, potentially involving collaboration with Concurrent Enrollment instructors. Teaching pedagogy in a variety of delivery formats Abilities Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks. Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, agency administrators, and community practitioners from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds. Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and initiative in solving problems. Ability to work independently, ethically, and professionally. Ability to plan measurable objectives, prepare instructional materials, and follow an approved curriculum. Ability to assess student work and maintain and submit accurate and current plans, reports, and records involving student accountability, attendance, and performance. Ability to use a classroom learning management system, such as Canvas. Ability to assist academic advisors, the department chairperson, and/or the program coordinators, faculty, department staff, and industry partners in maintaining effective programs.
