The Graphic Communication Department at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo is seeking applications for a pool of part-time lecturers. Positions are available as determined by need and funding during Fall and/or Spring semesters of the 2026

• 2027 academic year, which begins August 17, 2026.

Responsibilities and duties may include teaching one or more courses in lecture and/or laboratory settings, or collaborating with tenure-track faculty in support of instruction across the Graphic Communication curriculum. Part-time teaching opportunities may be available in the following areas: Graphic Communication production workflows , including Adobe Creative Cloud applications, digital file preparation, preflight, and workflow practices for print, packaging, and digital media output. Color management and reproduction , including monitor and device calibration, ICC profiling, color measurement, process control, and maintaining color consistency across print and screen-based media. Print and production technologies , including offset, flexographic, digital, wide-format, and specialty printing processes, with experience in prepress, substrates, finishing, quality control, and problem-solving in production. Packaging graphics and prototyping , including structural and visual packaging development, mockups, prototyping methods, and production considerations for package printing and converting. Photography, imaging, and motion graphics for graphic communication applications , including image capture, lighting, retouching, color correction, asset preparation, and motion content for cross-platform visual communication. Cross-media communication and branding , including integrated campaigns, omnichannel content strategy, audience engagement, and the coordination of visual messaging across print, digital, packaging, and emerging media. User interface and front-end design for communication products , including web-based interface development, digital experience design, and visual communication for interactive platforms. Management and business practices in graphic communication , including print and digital media production management, workflow planning, project management, estimating, quality systems, sustainability, and strategic decision-making in graphic communication and related industries. Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree in a related technical field required. Bachelor's degree in a related technical field with substantial and appropriate industry experience may be considered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. or Master's Degree preferred. Prior teaching experience desired.
