Job Description
We invite applications for a full-time, tenure-track Communication Instructor within the College's Liberal Arts and Social Sciences division. This is a 9-month position anticipated to begin August 2026, with a primary role of supporting the general education curriculum through teaching Introduction to Oral Communication ( Public Speaking ). The successful candidate will also contribute to teaching other communication-related course offerings based on departmental needs. This position contributes to the development of students' communication competencies, including public speaking, critical thinking, and audience awareness. Faculty in Communication promote civic engagement, support diverse perspectives, and foster students' ability to communicate effectively in academic, professional, and public contexts. The primary duty of faculty members is to teach. In addition to teaching, class preparation, grading, and holding office hours, general responsibilities include but are not limited to: Create a learning environment that fosters student success and the attainment of defined learning outcomes Participate in developing and reviewing curricula and instructional methods Assist in the articulation of courses within the division Develop, integrate, and evaluate student learning outcomes within the framework of the Heartland Community College assessment protocols Remain current in one's discipline Advocate for student persistence and pathways to completion through cooperation with Student Success and Enrollment Services staff Manage student issues and problems in a manner consistent with the Student Handbook Serve the institution in a variety of ways; examples of service activity include, but are not limited to, participation on teams and committees, assistance with marketing and recruitment events, and promotion of a collegial work environment Participate in program review The hired individual may be expected to teach a range of courses as assigned. Master's degree in Communication Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching Commitment to student success Commitment to service Availability to teach daytime or evening classes in person Doctoral degree in Communication Successful community college teaching experience Experience teaching Introduction to Oral Communication (Public Speaking) Experience teaching additional Communication courses Experience using classroom assessment to improve teaching and learning outcomes Experience with instructional technology Experience/ability to teach online Professional experience in a related field •
