This program provides a comprehensive study of communication and exposes students to the basics as well as to advanced techniques, tools, and philosophies that will equip them with the necessary skills they need to transmit information more effectively in various environments. This tenure track role typically requires at least a 40-hour work week which includes a course load of 15 credit hours per semester, and a minimum of five office hours per week. In addition to these responsibilities, the instructor will be expected to perform related duties such as serving on department and college committees, coordinating courses, serving as an ambassador for the Communication programs, and mentoring adjunct faculty. Teaching assignments may include day and evening assignments on the Dayton, Centerville, and Mason campuses. Additionally, assignments may include day assignments at area high schools. The position reports to the Dean of Liberal Arts, Communication, and Social Sciences. All full-time faculty salaries are determined by the Provost's Office and are commensurate with education and experience. Participate in the continuing development and implementation of the department's curriculum through teaching that reflects a strong commitment to fostering student success. Through in-class and out-of-class initiatives, actively seek to advance the development of individual students and their capacity to meet their educational goals.Scholarship and Professional Growth :
Maintain and seek to improve currency and competence in the discipline and as a teacher.Curriculum Design, Assessment, and Evaluation :
In collaboration with colleagues, actively contribute to the continuous review and revision of the department's curriculum. Must exhibit advanced computer proficiency, alongside the capability and time-management skills required for the effective development and revision of online courses. Implement evaluations according to established standards and use assessment data to continuously improve teaching and learning.Workplace and Community Service :
Contribute to the operation and advancement of the college through committee service and other activities. Extend professional expertise to the community served by the college. Principal Accountabilities Chair Responsibilities Provide strategic vision and direction for the department's curriculum, ensuring programs remain current with industry trends and educational standards Oversee curriculum development, course scheduling, and academic program assessment Lead accreditation processes and maintain relationships with professional organizations Recruit, hire, and evaluate faculty members, including tenure-track and adjunct instructors Conduct annual performance reviews, mentor adjunct faculty, and support professional development initiatives Provide leadership for continuous improvement of the Communication department Provide strong leadership for improving student success Develop and oversee the department's annual budget, including equipment purchases, software licenses, and facility maintenance Lead the continuing development and assessment of the department's curriculum and programs Lead the continuing professional development of the department's faculty and staff, full-time and part-time Provide leadership and maintain a climate of open communication, collegiality, and teamwork within the department; actively support the professional growth and development of the department Lead the department in the implementation of emerging best practices: pedagogy, curriculum, and assessment Ensure alignment of curricular outcomes with that of area colleges and universities as well as the Ohio Department of Higher Education in order to facilitate students' successful transfer Support LCS Divisional and College-wide initiatives related to Enrollment, Assessment and Retention; represent the department at the Division and College levels Lead other administrative/departmental activities as assigned Teach within the Communication department Teaching Responsibilities Teach various face-to-face or online Communication courses (foundation and second year courses) at the Dayton campus, as needed Curriculum responsibilities may include traditional and online courses Develop and deliver instruction in a classroom environment that emphasizes an experiential learning model focused on student involvement and success Involvement in both the internal college community as well as external organizations in the Miami Valley region Teach a minimum of 6 credit hours per academic year (fall and spring semesters) Maintain office hours as required by Sinclair policy Attend department and division meetings Participate in orientation and in-service activities Participate in the College's evaluation processes Participate in all sessions of the New Chair Orientation program Other duties as assigned Requirements Minimum of a bachelor's degree in communication required; master's degree in communication preferred Candidates without a master's degree in communication will be required to obtain one within a specified time Previous teaching, training, and/or project management experience in communication, or related subjects at the high school or college level Awareness of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in communication to ensure curriculum relevance and student preparedness for the workforce Demonstrated commitment to improving student learning through innovative strategies shown to help students succeed at the course and program level Ability to demonstrate knowledge of curriculum development Effective communication skills and ability to work in groups are required Ability to demonstrate creative and innovative approach to teaching pedagogy Official transcripts for all post-secondary degrees (if applicable) and successful completion of a background check will be required prior to date of hire.Similar jobs in Dayton, OH
